PC-8 from Easternbeaver.com
« on: May 02, 2012, 01:55:51 PM »
Just a fyi for anyone that might buy a PC-8 fuzeblock from Easternbeaver.com.  If you're going to mount the fuzeblock under the seat, you'll need at least the 54" and might want to get the 60" harness.  I ordered one that was too short and had to splice 10 and 12 AWG wire into the block end so that it would reach.

These work great, btw and seem to be well made.

Thanks for your suggestions and for being a first post for the PC-8.  My PC-8 should arrive any day now, but I didn't order a harness, since I had no idea how much snaking the wires will take for a toolkit installation.  I figured I'd do a mock-up and measure the lengths then order the best fit harness.  You saved all of us future PC-8 users the guesswork.

no prob, BZ.  i ordered the 36" harness 'cause i'm a retard and just guesstimated the distance without checking to see where the wires could run.  i thought i could run them down the right side of the bike, but i ended up having to go from the battery to that hole in the center of the bike under the tank and back to the right side, which ate up around 12" of length.  i spliced 18" of wire and ended up with about 1" to spare.

my pc-8 is mounted in the toolbox, btw.  i cut the top off and made a little slot in the right side for the cables.  i used adhesive velcro to secure it for now.  i was able to use the positap that came with the kit to tap into the accessory lead in the tail of the bike.

i can take some pics of everything if anyone would like to see the setup.

I would like to see it. If I used an EC grounding block, would I ground the PC 8 to the grounding block?

I've got to replace the crimpers I used with Posi-Connects, so I'll try to get those pics tonight or maybe this weekend.  I'm not sure about the EC master grounding block, but Jim at Easternbeaver would be the guy to ask.  He responded to a question I asked in about an hour.

Here are some pics showing at least part of the installation.  I replaced the crimpers with some posi-connects, but I didn't feel like pulling up the tank again to show the wiring paths or the relay and fuses by the battery.

You can see part of the wiring harness in the battery compartment, but the fuses and relay are to the left of the battery behind the two screws on the left of the cover plate.    The two orange wires are the the 20 amp and 30 amp hot wires of the 50 amp harness.  The black wire just below them is the ground wire.  I couldn't attach it to the battery grounding point due to a small protrusion on the frame and the way the cover fits.

The wires had to fan out too much and would keep the cover from fitting correctly, so I moved it to the screw just to the right in the photo.  I ran them to the big hole in the frame under the tank and then back to the right side of the tank.  They follow the right side of the tank down and emerge where you see them a couple of pictures down.

You can see from this pic I cut the trough in the toolbox too close to the PC-8.  Given the stiffness of the wires and space I had to work with, I should have cut the trough at the very edge of the toolbox or even in the side.  Of course, if you order the right size harness or wire your own to the correct length, you won't have those giant posi-connects there to worry about.  I'll re-do that at some point...maybe this winter when I won't be able to ride as often.

Here are a few pics of the front setup.

This is where I mounted the converter box for the GPS power cable.  I bought this little kit off of Amazon for $8 or so.  I used adhesive velcro to mount it to the box under the right-side fairing, which evidently has something to do with ABS since it's not there on my friends 2010 non-abs connie.

The power converter for the cell phone is mounted on a metal strut behind that dashboard vent on the right.  I just zip-tied it.
