Sounds like a buyer's market for the C-14, putting you in a position to haggle more with the C-14 than with the ST1300 or the BMW. At the same time, make sure you want the C-14, as you will use you shirt if try to sell/trade it shortly after you buy.

Well, I went and pulled the trigger. Just signed the paperwork for a 2012 C14 (in black). Bike is still in the crate, so I must wait a few days to pick it up. A 20-mile test ride on a demo bike proved to me that 1) the vibration is no problem, 2) the engine is PLENTY strong, and 3) I will surely need a taller windshield (6-foot-3). Can't wait to pick up the bike on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone on this forum for your support and advice. You folks helped cement my decision to go with  a Connie. Now, bring on the accessories!!

Did you think there would be vibration?  It is a high-end, modern, smooth, fuel injected, counter-balanced, inline 4.  It ain't no low-tech V twin!

2) the engine is PLENTY strong,

It is a 1400 with 10,500 redline and 135+hp to the ground  :)

and 3) I will surely need a taller windshield (6-foot-3).

Standing height doesn't completely relate to sitting height.  I am 5'7", but I estimate my sitting height to be that of an average 5'10" person, and the stock windshield is too low for me, also.  It might have been OK had I not used necessary handlebar risers.  Some day I might replace the windshield... I figure I will wait for it to get all scratched up first ;)   One thing is for sure, it is a hell of a lot more protection than my previous bike (ZRX).  Like day and night.

Hope you enjoy the other forum as much as I enjoy this one.

I enjoy both forums, too...and I'm a new Concours 14 rider...is there issues/politics between forums?  I figure we should all be able to play nice...we all have great taste in bikes, and I pretty much like everyone that rides!  :)
=============

I have a 30" inseam, and wear 32" pants so they cover my ankles while I'm riding.  I can uncomfortably flatfoot the bike (I weigh 215). My other bike is a Royal Star Venture (full-dresser) and it weighs 850lbs dry, so with a full tank and 400 lbs of human cargo, it's heavy.  Light once it's rolling, though.  My Connie feels like a lightweight bicycle in comparison, and I love it. I too find it very hard to get back on the cruiser since I've bought my Concours.  And I can't stop daydreaming about riding it.

I went to a dealership and sat on an ST for 20 minutes, then on the Connie for a while, too. (My wife was quite irritated after a while, but comfort is important.)  The ST and the BMW R1200RT seem to have about the same size and mass, both comfortable, but both were more like cruisers in disguise...I knew I loved the looks of the Concours more, and after sitting on all the choices, reading the raving good reviews, I took home a black 2012 model and never looked back.  Probably added $1000 in farkles, but still the $$$ were way less than he BMW or Honda.

You will not be disappointed with the Concours.

Ahhh, sorry, thought you were referencing the "other" Concours forum.  When I rode Honda, there was this silly rivalry between to Shadow forums that got really stupid after a while...silly animosity, and people saying they're "traitors" for posting on the other forum...sorry I misunderstood.  I like it here...  :)

Congrats and great news!  Glad you got a chance to take a good ride on it, too...

I thought I would want a taller windhshield too, but in fact I never put mine up - when it's down, the wind is "clean" - no buffeting, and as a bonus holds you up and takes pressure off the wrists.  I live in S. Florida, so it's usually a warm wind...

Best of luck with the new bike.  Ride it like you stole it!  :)
