Two-Way Radios
« on: April 04, 2012, 07:18:22 AM »
I am part of a large riding group which have regular day-long or weekend trips scheduled all season, many of which I organize and lead. We use standard group riding techniques, and have anywhere from 5 to 45 bikes. Lots o' fun.

Anyway, standard practice is for the lead and the sweep to have two-way comm capabilities and although I've gotten by for a few years without it, I decided to get with the program and buy a CB radio, which is the 2-way comm of choice for this group. I bought the Midland 75-882, which through a cord, connects to a Sena SR10 which in turn blue-tooths the CB, and the iPhone, and the Zumo, all to the SMH10 on my helmet.

My problem and question to you all is: where can I mount the CB? I don't think there's room for another RAM mount coming out of the handlebars and I really hate to hang another piece of equipment on them anyway.

Where would you mount an antenna? And the handset?

I have the J&M 2003 CB.  I have had these units on multiple bikes and had great luck with them.

Sierra electronics has the best prices on these and are extremely helpful.  I had to make a bracket to go off the luggage rack that I can send pics of.

I have the J&M unit also and it works great. Since every Gold Wing I have owned had a CB and I ride with other bikes this is a must. The unit also has an intercom if you ride with a passenger. It also has a AUX in where you can run a GPR or music through it to your headset. I have a GPS that plays MP3's and it comes through my headset. Love it
And unlike a bluetooth you don't have any thing to charge everyday

I looked at this unit but it was too pricey, had too much installation complexity, and apparently needs to be wired to the helmet? I didn't want any wires between the bike and my helmet. In any event, I already have all the equipment and it all works together very nicely, I just don't know where to put the CB hand unit. Thanks for your response though!

How about under the right or left top farring, but leaving the controls where you can get to them?

Chatterbox makes a GRMS/Bluetooth headset, but it's fairly bulky and expensive.

Same here.  Good radios and they make mounting hardware for the Concours 1400.
