rotors warped at 3k????
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:24:15 AM »
I think my rotors are warped on my 2011. It has 3k on it I bought it brand new last month. Has anyone else had this problem? The reason why I think they are warped is because at any speed over 5 miles an hour the front end shakes violently when under break pressure. Will Kawasaki cover these rotors? thanks.

Take your bike back to the dealer.....that's what the warranty is for. If it's rotors they should cover it, but you could have a different problem, so they need to have it diagnosed properly.

Not so much on the '11 and '12 models... They share a different part number... And heavier carriers than the first 3 years of production..  Could be a few different things causing it.. But take it in to the dealer... Its brand new..

I would hate to think this is still happening on the newer models, especially in light of the newer carriers and brake pads.

Did this just happen out of the blue or did it happen after an event like hard braking or a tire change?

With that low of miles I would be more likely to point the finger at [gasp] improper dealer setup or something that wasn't torqued correctly from the factory.

I have honestly noticed "ZERO" issues since I cleaned my rotors and went with Galfer pads........coincidence?

Same here with the 2011 rotors and EBC pads on my 2008.  20,000+ miles and going strong.

Me too.  I was under the assumption these issues were "solved" with the 2011.

Mine had extreme warping on my 2011 by 4500 miles.  Dealer replaced them.  I have 10,000 miles on it now and get some pulsing but no complaints.

I ran into a 2011 C14 owner while riding the Lake Mead area, and I noticed that he had standard front rotors instead of the Kawasaki serrated/notched rotors.  I asked him about the rotors, and he said he changed them out not long after he got the bike because the factory rotors are apparently **** and not worth keeping lol.  He mentioned that he didn't ride too aggressively.  The rotors on my 2009 haven't given my any trouble so far.

You might want to check the front tire.  I know that Kawasaki changed the front tire in 2010, but my 2009 felt like the front rotor was warped at 3000 miles, it turned out the front tire was badly scalloped.  I put a set of PR2s on and it changed the whole feel of the bike.

A buzz coming from the dash area is going to be hard for the dealer to find, especially if they don't ride your bike.  A lot of people have experienced some kind of buzzing from their C14.  My bike has a buzz at certain RPM's, but I've yet to find it.  I've checked/tightened every fastener I can see, and it's still there.  No important parts are loose, and I can't hear it unless I'm going slow.  So I let it go.  The bike is smooth where it counts. :)

My buzz is around the same RPM range, likely due to increased engine vibration at that RPM.  If you can still hear your buzz at 6k RPM in 6th gear, it must be a loud buzz lol.  I cant hear much more than wind at that speed.  If I'm riding at 6k rpm or above, it's because I'm hauling @$$ and having fun, and I definitley don't notice the buzz at that point.  I've had all the fairings off, had the tank off, and put it all back together...buzz is still there.  Like I said before, I know everything that matters is secure, so I'm not going to drive myself crazy trying to find the buzz.  If your dealership is willing to take a shot at it, that's cool.  Can't hurt to try.  If your bike comes back with the same buzz, I wouldn't worry about it.
