Connections to PCV
« on: February 25, 2012, 08:00:15 AM »
I installed a PCV yesterday. I only did a basic install but wondered how much of the extra connections others use and where to find the wires to tap into. I kind of like the idea of an economy map and a performance map so I do want to install wiring and a switch for that. Are any of the other connections required or advantageous?
Someone posted a link to wiring info a week or so ago and I meant to bookmark it but I spaced it. Not even sure what terms to use in the search box to find it.

Thanks, Matt

I've always thought it would be cool to have the gear information hooked up to it so that you could map by gear.  Then you could just have 5th and 6th gear mapped a little leaner and wouldn't need to have a switch with a 2nd economy map.  I've never hooked up anything other than just the required injector/ecu harness though.

If the bike stops running out on the road somewhere, it's easy to unplug the PVC and see if it runs without it. Once you start cutting wires and adding circuits, you make it more complicated. Not worth the small savings for me. Get a custom map run for it, you will get max hp and mileage and not run lean.

IIRC you can map individual gears if you run an AutoTune.  I haven't figured it out mine yet but I think Fred Harmon has mapped his that way.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

I don't have autotune but I can see how mapping individual gears could be beneficial.  If you think about it, since the ECU opens and closes the flies at different RPM and load depending on what gear you're in, it probably controls fueling differently in every gear too.  So those of us with flies removed running maps that were probably done on a dyno with the bike in 5th or 6th gear are probably missing out on optimal fueling in the first couple gears.

I talked to local shop yesterday that will do the dyno thing for me. They recommended a K&N filter so I need to get one before I do that. I wonder if they can do dyno pulls all the way through the gears? I am not ready to spend the money on the autotune just yet and I like the idea of 5th and 6th mapped for economy. It may be worthwhile to search out and connect to the signal wire for gear selection.
I have thought about getting the autotune but my exhaust is titanium and not sure I want to trust someone to weld in a bung for the O2 sensor. Welding titanium is not for beginners especially if the bung is made of some other material.
Jeremy mentioned Fred Harmon's name. I think that was the name listed that I was looking for with all the electrical info on the bike. I checked out his site but only found accessory connections. Maybe that is all the link that I remembered was referring to.
