windshield mounting
« on: February 16, 2012, 06:06:40 PM »
I currently have the two windshields that have been floating around for testing. I mounted up the V-Stream and didn't think any thing about it but I got home from a ride and went to switch from the V-Stream to the other one and noticed that the holes in the second one were a little bigger. Big enough in fact that the head of the middle bolt can go right through it so the middle bolts aren't doing anything to hold the shield on. To me this is a sign that something may be missing. I know I didn't lose anything when I pulled my stock shield off so I am guessing that the place I bought it from didn't install all the parts properly. It appears it should be a small stepped/counterbored  washer of some sort.
Let me know if this is the case so that I can get some ordered. I also noticed that one of the plastic rivets under the shield is missing. I'll need to get one or ten of those while I am at it.

Thanks, Matt

Let me guess. . . is that 2nd shield a CalSci?  I bought one from them last fall and noticed the same thing.  You're not missing anything.  They just drill the holes a little on the big side and that allows those center screws to go through if it's positioned just right.  I contacted the manufacture and they assured me that it wouldn't cause any problems.  So far it hasn't.  Here's a thread that I started last year with the same question:

I wasn't too worried but someone mentioned some white washers in your other thread. I don't have any washers of any kind. Just the plastic trim pieces and the rubber strips that sandwich the shield.

No big deal really I guess.

Yeah those washers aren't meant to add any structure to the system.  They are just those paper-thin nylon washers that are designed to protect the plastic from being in direct contact with the shoulder bolts.  Probably wouldn't hurt to get your hands on them next time you're at the dealer but you should be fine without them.
