Murph's lights install question
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:08:55 AM »
I am thinking of ordering the $475 headlight kit from Murph this week. I have a question if anyone knows the answer.
What parts of the fairing have to come off to install it? Just the black top sides, or more than that? I hope the whole fairing doesn't need to come off.
I have the lowers off at the moment and I was going to put them back on today.
Thx

... I hope the whole fairing doesn't need to come off. ...

Main fairing has to come off. It's not that hard to do though, maybe an additional 15 minutes?

Both mid fairings, inner panels (dash pockets), windscreen, dash cowl (disconnect the clock). Remove mirrors, disconnect the headlight plug and the turn signals (1/4 turn twist out). Two nuts at each upper corner of the main (@ the mirror attach), then one bolt at each lower center. Remove the plates with the two studs at the mirror attach, remove the main fairing.

Much more than I was hoping. I have never had the main fairing off yet. Thx for the head's up Rick.
I think it'll be worth the extra effort. And plus, I have to learn how to remove it eventually. We still have a handful of weeks here of possible or likely snow.
