RIP Chloe
« on: January 24, 2012, 08:28:15 AM »
She was 14.5 years old, but still had the demeanor of a puppy, even last night. She truly was a great friend, my wife's best friend. Today seems ike the worst day of my life, and probably is. I'm glad she didn't have to suffer long.

I understand your loss...I always found doggy comfort in this...........

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry for your loss. Many of us have been there and understand the pain and loss you feel. Words of condolence won't stop the hurt, but perhaps knowing you're not alone can offer some comfort.

Condolences to you and your wife on your loss of Chloe.. The void hurts, and only passing time can begin to heal the heart.
Knowing she is out of pain may be of some comfort to the both of you. God bless, and thinking often of her will keep her spirit alive and well with you.

Sorry to hear about your loss.  Many of us can emphasize.  I lost my Schnauzer 7 years ago and I had to have him put down.  A dog dying in your arms is heart breaking.  But I know that he is still around.  A day or two later while in bed I was awakened by a bark next to my ear.  The same day I saw a cloud profile that looked just like him.  I miss him greatly.  He loved my wife but he loved and respected me.  He would go to bed at night with my wife but would wait at the top of the stairs with his nose hanging over the edge waiting for me to come up... :'(

Thank you for everyone's kind words. Deb and I are really struggling, can't stop the tears. I know it will get easier as time passes. I know many members of this board have experienced the same over the years. There is comfort in knowing we are not alone. Chloe was truly a great pet and an even better friend. She was a happy dog until the day before she died.

It's been over ten years ago we had to put our cat Nikko down due to cancer. Those who don't care for cats would have enjoyed this one.  My daughters grew up with him and he was dressed and pushed around in a doll carriage. My youngest was born before the electric baby swings so hers was a wind up. Nikko would jump into the seat and then look at you with a “well” look meaning you were going wind the swing up.  Nikko would normally go through 3 wind up sessions before he was done. He knew the pecking order in the house…It was me then him then the wife.

You could not say no when he wanted attention and would bite when he was done. He loved to play hide and seek. If you got something over him, he would have to go lick himself. If we went someplace it made him mad and he would lay on the couch and kick the wife in the back of her head. He stole a stuffed shark from my daughter after a trip to Sea World. We would find the shark in his dish if it was empty. We took his ifront claws to save furniture and keep him from climbing curtains. He learned to use his teeth and back claws and still went up the curtain.  I could go on and on. The cats since Nikko they just are not as fun. I know the family and I still miss him today.

Then there was Emily who was a Blond Cocker Spaniel. My wife is not a dog person. Emily was a gift to my oldest daughter and she and the wife had to drive a 100 miles to pick her up.  My wife’s heart melted when she saw Emily. You just cannot like a Cocker Spaniel puppy running and carrying a stick with ears a floppin’’.  This dog was smart but did not do many tricks. What she did do is try to please you in every way she could, God only gives you a dog like Emily once in a life time.

Emily passed away while I was away from home. Emily always went for a walk with the wife and would be enthusiastic about it.  Then one day she didn’t want to go. The Vet was not able to figure out what was wrong with her. Shortly after this she died. Our current Cocker Spaniel, Toby has his own agenda. He doesn’t really care if you are part of his agenda or not.

I think some people don’t understand it’s like a family member dying. I know I still get a watery eye when I remember Emily and Nikko.

So I feel your Pain and it will lessen over time sorta.
