Question for Canadians: Price of 2011/2012 C14s in Canada?
« on: January 08, 2012, 07:20:19 AM »
Here in Atlantic Canada, there's not much of a presence of decent size Kawi dealers and the only place in my town is basically an RV/Trailer/ATV/snowmobile shop, if you know what I mean.  They only got into selling motorcycles a couple of years ago and they're not into it in a big way.  This is the only Kawi dealer here........sad.

They only have a leftover 2009 without ABS and they don't seem to be in a hurry to sell it, it's been sitting there for two years and I didn't get the impression that they're in the mood to lower the price much, so there you go.  Oh well, I want ABS on my next bike anyway, so that bike isn't for me but that's what I have here for a dealership.

In the event that I do see a 2011/2012 at some point, I'm curious to find out from some of you folks out there in other parts of Canada as to what you're seeing for out-the-door deals.  I'll travel if the savings are good enough.  Or at the very least, at least I'll have some kind of a benchmark as to what's a fair price for this bike.  I have the impression that we're getting hosed out here.

My last post here concerned whether you'd buy a bike from a dealer that probably wasn't competent to do the work, case in point, this RV dealership working on a C14.  I suppose that if I did score a C14 and this dealer wasn't up to snuff enough to get the thing sorted out, another dealer somewhere within an hours drive should be able to help.

I heard through the grape vine that this RV place wasn't doing really well with the motorcycle sales, so who knows, we might be without a Kawi dealer completely soon.  It's like Kawi has never had any luck around here, we're on the third dealer in four years.

I know that I could consider a BMW or an FJR or ST1300 but they're not grabbing me as much as the C14.

So, any input here would be appreciated guys.

Just curious, what are they asking for this bike (2009 non ABS)?  I believe that the high rebates and incentives are long gone, as there are very few new '09s left.

Well, I never got into any serious number crunching with them but they coyly said to make them an offer but like I said, this bike doesn't have ABS, so that's pretty much a deal-breaker for me as I'd like ABS on my next ride.

It probably doesn't matter because in all likelyhood, they'll be out of the motorcycle business soon.  Kawasaki needs to get some serious representation here because they're about the only major brand in my area without a real dealership.  Too bad because these C14s are a nice bike.

But like everything else here in the Maritimes, the prices tend to be on the high side of the spectrum and I'm sure that there are better deals in other parts of the country.  The major centers would have more competition then what we see over here, therefor the prices should reflect that.

I'd just like to know what other Canadians are getting these bikes for, just so that I have something to go with when out shopping.

It would be great if I could shop online and check out what other Kawi dealers throughout the country have in stock and maybe even what the actual OTD cost would be but they all seem to post the same generic Kawasaki pictures along with the Canadian MSRP.  You can't even be sure that they have one on their showroom floor, it's just a link to Kawasaki's website.  That's all that I've seen so far anyway.

I've been scouring Kijiji and the internet in general over the last few months, looking for a local C14 and I finally found something just now, it's a new 2011 in silver and they only want $15,995.00

Not a bad price for around here.  This dealer is located in Truro, Nova Scotia, appx. a 1.5 hour drive from my place.  I'll have to keep these guys in mind when I actually have cash in hand to buy one, hopefully pretty soon.  I'd be happy to have that bike for anywhere in that price range.

Out here on the West Coast in Vancouver the price for a 2012 at the local Kawi dealer was $18,000  plus all the fees and 12% HST.

So that price of $15,900 sounds pretty good. Is that out the door? New?

cheers

Save yourself a bundle. Have a look at this. There would not be any warranty, but you would have a lot of cash to spend on any possible repairs!

Great idea, buy a bike from the US, would you still have warranty if you went to a dealer in the US?

Paul,
Nah, that's $16,000 plus tax and if they're like most dealers, there would also be freight & PDI thrown in there as well.

I wouldn't rule out traveling to RI to get a super deal as it's not all that far from home but I'll have to wait until all of my finances are in order first.  I'm just doing my homework right now and hopefully I'll be on one of these things by this summer.  I might have to unload my cruiser in the process but I think that I'm pretty much past the cruiser thang, something with better handling, better power and a better seating position are what I'm after now.  Also, something that's good for touring 2-up.  So, a sport-tourer is what will be my next bike and the C14 is an awesome bike for the money IMHO.

Good luck with the C14 shopping, you have picked a great bike for your next purchase. I test road the Honda ST1300 and the FJR 1300 and the C14 was my choice hands down. Stick with getting the C14  :)

Yeah, the C14 sounds like the best out of the lot and most magazines seem to reflect that too.

The Honda ST1300 would have long term reliability behind it I would imagine but it looks like it could use an update, plus they're quite pricey.  The FJR1300 looks a tad dated too but not as bad as the ST1300, I've heard great things about the FJR but at 6 ft with a 32" inseam, the C14 offers a bit more leg room and that's always a good thing in my books.

I had the chance to test ride a 2010 C14 a couple of years ago and borrowing a saying from England, I was gob-smacked!  Wow, that was so much fun.  When I returned to the dealership after riding the C14 for a half hour and climbed back onto my 1600 Classic cruiser, it made me laugh out loud! :D

It was such a huge difference from the C14.  The C14 was all about smooth power (and lots of it), great handling, great brakes, etc.....and fun, fun, fun!  I was grinning during the whole demo ride.  What a revelation that was to me, I had only been on cruisers up to that point.

The old cruiser just felt so primitive, it was so heavy it couldn't get out of its own way.  The engine is a 1600 V-twin but it just didn't seem to have enough power to pull itself along.  It was like hoping on an old piece of farm equipment.  And to add to that, the seating position of the cruiser just kills my butt after a half hour or so.  I'm 50 years old and I often get lower back pains, the cruiser just makes matters worse.

I've looked at the ST1300, FJR1300 and BMW K1300GT and in all honesty, if I can swing it, this summer I'll be on a C14, it's the best sport-tourer bargain out there for the money IMHO.

No warranty when bringing a bike in from the US. I brought an 08 in two years ago and have had zero problems. For the price of a new one and the differences like KTRAC, why buy new? You can get a low mileage one - 08-09 - for half the price.

MSRP dropped $1,200 in Canada this year. It went from 20,199 to 18,999 for 2012. A fair deal for a 2012 would be $18,000 including all fees plus tax. I would wait to find a 2011 or wait until spring or later in summer. Kawasaki has given rebates almost every year. That will save you at least another $1,200. Depending on the price, I would take the 2010 or newer over the 08 or 09. Good luck.
