Exhaust header bolt torque?
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:36:44 PM »
Hi all.
Anyone know what the torque is for the header to head nuts?
I looked in my Clymer and factory manuals and cant seem to locate it.

Finally got around to putting my ceramic coated headers on, and I guess now the rest will have to wait until I can figure this out.
I guess there is always tomorrow....

Thanks in advance....also, if someone knows where it is in either of those, let me know....maybe I just skipped over it, but in the Clymer, most bolt torques are at the end of the chapter discussing whatever it is you are working on.  In this case, its all carb specs.

Say what?

I found the torque table, and I guess since I cant find anything else, Ill use that.
8mm bolt, 10-14.5 lb/ft.
Im going with 12....

If anyone finds a hard number for those nuts, let me know...

The factory manual does not list a torque spec but instead says to use a non permanent thread locker.

I see mention of non-permanent locking agent but no specific torque value in my 86-89 Kawasaki service manual.

Thanks guys.  Already back together.
Well, minus the coolant anyway.

BTW, not to argue with the manual, but you do NOT need to remove the upper fairing to get the radiator and mount off.  It would probably make it easier, but its not necessary.
Id just about bet you wouldnt have to take the radiator out either, but the bracket has to come out, and its much easier to remove that with the radiator out of the way.

No, what you said was

LOL, just kidding.   I was just saying the same again so he could hear it from two people.  I know, I should have done x2.  My bad.
