  • It's only really cold if you fall down in it.

Yep, still the best $0.14 farkle on the bike. It must be time to take it apart and have a look though.

Sorry to hear about the back issues, hope it gets better.

A while back there was another gentleman who had gone the turbo route on a C-14, ate the edges of a piston(s) and went with aftermarket pistons only to have it happen again; the cause was lean running due to insufficient fuel provided by the variable pressure fuel pump. But then he published a photo or two of his C-14 wearing a Paxton type blower on the right side, powered from the crankshaft end that normally stops at the alternator rotor. Pretty slick set up by the looks but almost no data reported with it, and I cannot remember now where I saw the original photos.

Since my Kaw is now residing in about 500 pieces throughout my garage...there's not much chance of any kind of pressure likely to occur!
(unless the garage fairies come in the darkness of night to fix it for me)
No rush due to the ole back/spinal issues.
I've been trying to get all my astro equipment to talk to each other so I can start taking some photos (talk about a black/money hole!).
Prolly get inspired soon and fix the 1400 and then who knows? Riding these days hurts alot so the Duc will be sold fer sure.
I came into possesion of a '66 BB vette which I drive very infrequently, after riding bikes so long, sports cars just seem like a poor second place to the thrill of a bike.

Does the teflon throttle fix still work for you?

Well, I should have read this whole thread rather than coming in at the end.....

But now that you are here, wasn't it you who had the Paxton type blower hanging off the right side of a C-14? Or at least published photos of that? The dementia is certainly taking its toll but I am sure I remember seeing that photo and I have it associated with you.... ?

Brian

Yes, it will mostly bolt right up. The stock pistons can easily hold 7-8psi, so long as the fueling is on point. I burned up a set (or two...) because of some faulty/mismatched fuel system parts (Fretka did the same, but he was using the same fuel system parts from the same supplier....) Ah, the learning curve of forced induction DIY.

Turbo c14 = fun as hell. But don't expect 3rd gear power wheelies. 2nd gear can happen under the right circumstances, but you pretty much have to provoke it. Even 2-up it's stable as a barn full of horses once you're out of first gear. :)

Not me, I remember Spaz did his w/turbo like mine but we both fell prey to a bad fuel pressure regulator. I did tho...........
have that silly looking ram-air scoop/filter/bazooka sticking out on the left side! Worked great, looked stupid, but was a great conversation initiator at the hangout!
I will prolly put it back together soon but haven't decided on the turbo future. I am just stubborn enough to try it all again. It was great fun, almost worth the headaches involved.
Sorry to here about the back Chet but it sounds like you can still find a way to live with it. Mine requires frequent and heavy pharma to keep it at bay.
Anything new on the board these days? Car tires on motorcycles, brake issues , Guhl vs. dynojet?

Lets start an oil thread.......... ::)

Nope, I was referencing Spaz, not you. I thought it was Spaz's bike that had the Paxton type blower on the right hand engine case.

The forum has been pretty calm. Nothing to see here folks....

They haven't killed me yet.... :)

Actually, it was a Rotrex blower hanging on the side of my ZX-10R (There is a thread in the "It's not a Concours" section around here somewhere.). My C14 is (mostly) stock atm and chewing up tires as my daily driver while I tinker with the 10R. And for the record, I had regulator issues, but I'm 99% sure that it was the sub-standard fuel pump that caused the bulk of my issues. I thought that I had paid a fellow for a walbaro 255HP pump & assembly, when really what I got was a stock mitsubishi gallant pump with the regulator epoxied shut and the overpressure relief epoxied with a screw driven into it. Ha ha, ha ha. I make my own fuel systems now.

Good to here you're still alive and kicking Fretka! I hate to hear about the back issues... I get 'em in my L5 from time to time, but not bad enough to keep me off the scooters. Old BB vette's are fun too, though; I had a 72 BB 4-speed 'ray once upon a time. Like a roller skate with a solid fuel rocket in it, I swear. If you ever decide to put the Connie back together with the snail on it, drop me a PM... I have a few tips and tricks for getting it to live this time around. Piston strength isn't the issue, it's all about management and fuels (depending on how much boost you really want to make). I did get the zx10R to live at 10psi on pump gas, and it has over 12.5:1 compression, hehehe. There's a good chance I'll have mine back to breathing compressed air again before the June rally in Tennessee, which I may actually get to attend this year!

I 'spect if I run the turbo again I would keep it down to about 6 #'s boost. Just is no need for the power that 10# makes.
I remember passing cars at about 50 or 60 mph when the tire would roll over the lane stripes it would lose traction and I would  be passing cars with the rear lit-up! Just no-way to describe what that motor feels like on boost. My favorite was to click into fourth and roll it on....
Jesu Christo........ what a feeling that is. The bottom gears on boost made for a serious handful and I don't think I ever boosted in first. Fifth and sixth would pull so hard that you found yourself going waaay too fast, waaay too soon! My compressor was sized to boost at 3500 rpm and was very manageable under careful throttle loads, really very docile up to 2 pounds but would snap instantly to 9 #'s if given the berries. Most of the time I would ride it at low boost pressures but the best part of the turbo was knowing that at anytime, anywhere you could decimate any other vehicle you might come across! Pirelli Angels never stood a chance. Everyone should experience that feeling once in their life but it does not come cheap.

Memory Lane.

My turbine was sized a little more for upper rpm, but that was kind of on purpose. I still had the secondary flies in the whole time, so it was really "on" 'till about 5K. But good grief it was quick for such a big bike after that.... and I was only at about 7-8psi. If I was carefull/deliberate I could keep the front end down in first, but it was trickey. But I will never, ever forget the look on my buddies face when we had a little impromptu roll-race between me and his '08 GSXR 1K. Rolling on it from about 30 mph and the front wheel of the C14 pulls right up to about his shoulder in the same lane and slowly pulls away on one wheel all the way through second gear. Sitting bolt upright, with the bags on, looking over my shoulder at him and grinning the whole time. Unbelievably fun.

It's expensive, but now that I know how to do it right it's not so bad. The C14 is actually easier and cheaper to turbo than most bikes. I'm half tempted to put together DIY kits if I can get enough interest. :) We'll see when I get it back together.  ;D
