Has anyone rebuilt their forks?

Jeremy,
Do all of these upgrades you are talking about mean that you feel your "stock" bike was to blame for your accident?  Is there some deficiency you're trying to resolve?  Don't misunderstand, I'm all about the farkle, improvement, customize and personalize if you can afford it.  But if you found something the hard way, I want to learn from it too.

I take full responsibility for my low side, I will post full details in a dedicated thread once the insurance is settled.  I won't blame the equipment because it only does what I tell it to.  I learned a hard lesson and hopefully it is the last time I get an education like that


I am a big guy (250 lbs) and if you add my wife (120) and luggage (approx.  70) to that my suspension was working pretty hard when I was chasing guys that were riding solo.  I just want a bike that is "tailored" to me instead of a 160 lb Japanese test rider.

Understand.  I'm also a big guy, but I don't ride particularly agressively, (I only chase down minivans), and my wife never rides with me.  Dollars are too tight for me to invest the kind of cash it takes to do what you are doing, but I'm always trying to learn what the "trick" setup is, in case I hit the lotto next week.

I didn't hit the lotto but my lowside did give me an excuse to tear my bike down and make a couple of improvements.  I will post a thread about my opinion of the new fork and shock once I get some seat time.

Ohlins is running a sale, $499 for a complete rebuild.  After doing lots of research I don't think I can beat this deal anywhere else.  That price even includes shipping back to me, so I will be sending my forks out this week.

What improvements are included in the cost?  Spring, valves...etc??

I think the only item that is not included is fork seals, I was told that I just needed to put a comment at the bottom of the service sheet to request new seals and they would install OEM seals for free.
