Greetings from Ireland
« on: September 26, 2011, 01:37:37 PM »
Hello all,

Got back into biking about 4 years ago by way of a 1986 connie (a winter project ) The bike was an american import to England where it had an engine transplant and from there imported to Ireland so she is well travelled :) I added 25000 miles to her and she sits in my shed now as I purchased a spotless 1996 with 13000 miles and rode it 300 miles home last october.
These bikes are pretty rare over here and I have seen just one on the roads here in the past 5 years.
I love the simple and solid engineering of the bike and its utter dependability and  the wealth of knowledge provided by everybody on this forum. The shape and lines of the bike are timeless( some would say dated) in the same way as 190E mercedes cars from the 80's to early 90's  (another lasting example of simple and solid engineering)
It has taken a long time for me to get round to register here so I must say many thanks for all the interest and depth of knowledge on here that enables people to keep these great bikes on the roads of the world for many years to come.

Or, Sláinte!

Very cool to hear from you. My wife and I have a goal of spending 6 months to a year in Ireland in the future. I really would love to get a bike when we are there and have done a little shopping to see what is available. As you say, the GTR is pretty rare. It's great that you now have 2 of them. If you hang on to both, maybe we can work something out on that 86 down the road.....

I've driven a lot of roads there that I hated in the car, but would be perfect on the bike. Might even have room to get past another vehicle on a bike.

Can you point me to any IRL bike web sites? Sorry for the hijack, welcome to the forum and come see us over at www.cog-online.org as well.

Welcome Irish!

I'm with you on the styling.  Unfortunately, I just sold my '92 190E to a good friend... that is the best car I've ever owned!  I'm in the process of selling the Connie in favor of a '96 BMW R1100RT.  I love the RT, but hate to sell the Connie.
I don't want a pickle... I just wanna ride my motorsickle.
