Control Heat on Corbin Seats
« on: November 04, 2011, 08:32:32 AM »
All, my wife and I have the Corbin heated seats on our 2010 ABS.  They are great and we love them.  However, the seats get really really hot, and we continually have to turn them off and on and off and on to control the heat.  Are there any recommendations out there for putting a heat regulator/controller on the bike to regulate the heat?  Would something from "Warm & Safe" do the trick?  Would love to know what all the experts think on this site.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks.  I have emailed Corbin about it.  They have been very helpful and are going to get back to me with any options they can provide.  I will post their response once they get back to me the beginning of next week.

As someone already said, a Gerbing or Warm 'n Safe or similar clothing controller would work but you would have to do a bit of wiring to get the controller in-line with the seat's wiring. Also, one controller could easily control both front and back of the heated seat as long as you can both agree on a setting of course.

If you do end up with two controllers, give the one that controls your part to your wife and vice- versa. It won't work very well but I think all of us here would get a chuckle out of the report on how that went....  ;D

I've always felt that my Corbin seat got WAY too hot, too. I'm surprised that it doesn't come standard with at least a two-stage switch. I've ridden down into the 30's and still couldn't leave the seat on full time. (But, I've never run the heated grips on high either.)

I never really considered talking to Corbin about it. Guess it just never crossed my mind to do so. Let us know what they tell you as I'm very interested in the outcome/options.

It never crossed our minds either.  Corbin said they would try to do something for us, and would get back to us on Monday.  Will certainly let everyone know if they come up with some sort of solution.

I have been extremely impressed with Sargent's "Chili controller".  It is infinitely variable, and uses a variable pulse, rather than resistance, to vary (modulate) the heat.  It is a simple but very effective design that gives user feedback (blinking light) and is not affected by load (I use it with or without a heated jacket).  Although it is not the same brand as your seat, if you are not happy with the solution Corbin might offer you, seriously consider this controller.  I am sure it would work fine with any brand of seat or clothing (as long as the wattage is not exceeded.  I think I have 50 watts attached right now).   http://www.sargentcycle.com/chillivest.htm
