Rear brake pad replacement
« on: August 28, 2011, 12:49:20 PM »
C10, 2001, 66,493 km inside rear pad was worn down to 1mm. Probably the original pads. Straightforward replacement, only spilled a bit of old brake fluid, getting ready for a trip.

There's a rotating disk on the end of the slave piston, anybody know what it's for?

Those are heat isolaters, they keep heat from the pads from transfering to the caliper.

George,
Don't forget to check that rr. hub spline in the rr. wheel. My 01 puked hers at 70k and left me stranded. Your already in there, might as well pop the o-ring and pull it off and give it a good look see.
Oh yea, what Jim said.
Ride safe all, ATGATT please.

I removed the rear caliper without taking off the wheel. But I will soon be putting on a new rear tire, and the splines will be checked, both in the wheel and in the drive shaft.
