Oil light question
« on: August 11, 2011, 10:01:30 PM »
Is it normal for the oil light to take a bit longer to go out after you restart the bike within 3-5 seconds of shutting it off. I rode home today and put the bike in the garage. I shut her down and then went for restart. I noticed the oil light took 1-2 sec to go out. I have noticed this now twice in the last few days. In the mornings after sitting overnight the light goes out almost before I get the starter button released. The bikes oil level is good and is running fine. The bikes an 06 with 10,700 miles .....thanks

Hot oil gets thin, thin oil creates less pressure than cold thick oil thus it could take a moment or two longer to build oil pressure when restarting a hot engine.

Don't want to alarm you but my '06 starting having problems with the oil light coming on during hard braking. It kept getting worse and would get to the point I lost all oil pressure. (checked with an oil pressure gauge) After trying every thing I could think of I replaced the oil pump. 3700 miles later and no pressure problems. I keep reading about 2006's with oil related problems. I would keep an eye on it. Hope your bike has a long trouble free life.

Thanks, I hope it does not get to the point of a pump change. However, you never know. Modern day bikes should not have problems like that. I will do an oil change tomorrow and see what happens. My problem is on a hot start not braking, I hope your 06 remains trouble free.

Thanks for your reply. I am still getting use to the connie and it does behave differantly than my valkyrie did. It may just be the way this bike is this may be something I need to get use to seeing.
