Did I just void my Kawasaki warranty???
« on: August 26, 2017, 07:13:40 AM »
Hi Folks,
I wasn't sure where I should post this, so I figured I'd put it here.

So, the dealer couldn't fit me in for my 600 mile check until August 30th.
My 2 day jaunt along the lake Michigan shoreline, turned into a 3 day, 800 mile trip around northwestern Michigan.
Pulled into the garage with just over 1000 miles on the odometer.

Do you think the extra 400 miles will be a warranty voiding issue?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

You in a heap of trouble, mister.

gPink forgets Section 8(1c) of the Kawasaki Rules and Regulations which states, "Owner/Rider of the Concours 1400 (ZG1400) shall have the first maintenance check performed at precisely 600 miles. Failure to do so will void the warranty forevermore."
I've heard of violators being subject to terrible, unspeakable deeds by the Kawasaki security forces. I suggest that you surrender the bike to me and I can take the heat on your behalf?

:)

Like gP said, it doesn't void your warranty.  It doesn't have to be done by a dealer either, although it is preferred.  Generally, Kawasaki would have to prove that your missing a scheduled maintenance interval is the cause of whatever future damage that might occur.... and that isn't easy for them to do.  Some dealers might harass you, though.

That said, it is prudent to get the first service done close to the time recommended; I believe it is probably one of the most important services to protect the engine and also to make sure the bike is safe (this is the best time to find things that worked loose or didn't quite get assembled tightly).

And on that topic, it is a good time to spend a relatively small amount of money and extend that incredible 3 year warranty to 6 with the factory extended warranty:  http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=225.0

Not 601, but 600.  Not 599, but 600.  One mile 600 times.  No more, no less.

I think I did mine at 200, then went on an 1800 mile ride.

Good to see you taking it with the grain of salt as some of the posters intended. All good matured but a lot of bantering goes on here.

To further address your question: There has to be some reason applied to anything as complex as a warranty. And no warranty can be entirely voided by something like a slightly extended maintenance interval, so no, you did not void your warranty. Further, other than internal engine or transmission damage, no mfg. would even try to avoid a warranty claim on, say, front brakes because you missed an oil change. As these bikes are really and truly robust, it is unlikely you will ever have engine or transmission damage but even if you did, Kawasaki would still have to press and make a reasonable point that YOUR slight miss on a service interval contributed or better yet, caused the [whatever in the engine or transmission] to fail. Possible certainly but highly unlikely IMO.

Best of luck with the new ride and enjoy the hell out of it.

Brian

Thank you folks!

Thanks Brian.  For sure, I actually had to read sanmo's post a couple times before I realized he was BS'ing me.

Thanks for the laughs folks!

Picked up the C14 today from the "first service".  No mention made about the 1017 miles.

Though, I did find out the my rear tire pressure sensor is not functional and has to be replaced.  Good news, it's a warranty job.

Might get the dealer to read the KDS instruction manual ahead of time.  ;)

I bought mine on a Saturday, and took it back on Tuesday when the dealer opened with 1600 miles on it.

LOL, hopefully they were impressed.  That is a freaking lot of miles.

I walked in and asked if I could get the 600 mile service done. They sort of laughed and asked how many mile I had on it. When I told them they were shocked.

I got it home around 5pm on Saturday the day I bough it. I left around 11pm and rode from Pittsburgh to Iowa, arriving just as my brothers and sister in-law were taking my parents to lunch on their anniversary. I had forgotten it was their anniversary. It was a great surprise for them, and me. I rode back on Monday. I also ordered a new seat as soon as I got back from Iowa.  :o

I had a little over 8,000 miles on it in the first three months. Sadly, my schedule changed over the years so I wasn't able to keep riding as much. I used to jump on it and ride somewhere at at least twice a month, usually the same type of mileage.
