tire inflation using flammable spray
« on: April 20, 2017, 07:59:47 AM »
I was watching youtube recently and saw videos of people inflating everything from trailer tires to humongous construction veh. tires using a flammable spray and then igniting it. didn't see any motorcycle tires being mounted. but it looks pretty scary if you ask me.

It's not so much inflation as bead seating. I have seated tractor tire beads with a bit of starting fluid. Not the safest thing to do.  8)

I've used it many times over the years for stubborn motorcycle tires, Just spray a little starting fluid & ignite with a long grill style lighter. The good thing about the C14 is that the low profile tires are so stiff that once they are on the rims the bead seals itself with no problem.

Bummer....
I just have to ask tho, did you fall prey to the old "hold my beer...." line he probably uttered before messing with the tire?

I just let Bobcats seat themselves.... I stay away from cats with sharp claws...

Sorry to hear that.

What happened? Did he get his fingers caught between the tire and the rim during the..... ah, 'event' of inflating it?

Never seen it done in person but there are a lot of videos out there on this and really, it seems to work pretty well. But specifically, it does not look like it would cause any digit damage unless a person were trying to light the combustible with a match or lighter or some- such thing. It looks like more of an eye- damage causing event.....
