Three dead in shooting at Arizona motorcycle rally
« on: July 23, 2011, 05:32:50 PM »
(Reuters) - A shooting late Friday at a motorcycle rally in Northern Arizona left three dead and one critically wounded, police said on Saturday.

The killings at Mormon Lake, a few miles south of Flagstaff, happened as an annual rally called "Too Broke for Sturgis" was just getting underway, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office said.

A sergeant with the sheriff's office assigned to the event radioed in at about 11:20 p.m. Friday that he had heard shots fired.

Callers to 911 directed officers to a campground on Mormon Lake, where they found two men and one woman dead from gunshot wounds and a fourth woman, shot six times, clinging to life.

Both women were still seated in their camp chairs. One gun was recovered at the scene, close to the hand of one of the dead men, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The investigation is still in its preliminary stages. But one possibility investigators are exploring is that the shooting was a murder-suicide.

None of the dead or injured were identified.

The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally draws half a million enthusiasts to the small town of Sturgis in the Black Hills of South Dakota for 10 days each August.

In recent years, some veteran riders have complained the Sturgis rally has lost its outlaw edge, attracting too many bankers and lawyers with top-of-the-line $30,000 Harley-Davidsons and not enough old-fashioned hard-core bikers.

It is always a shame when people get killed, and when motorcyclists get negative public attention.

Not to put too fine a line on the thing, but this "rally" was not aimed at the high class crowd. but at the old school biker crowd..  The promoting website has an "adults" only, over-21 restriction on it.  No one under 18 allowed to attend, regardless of parental permission.  Another ABATE-sponsered, death-involving black eye for motorcyclists.  Probably will get the anti-2nd amendment crowd stirred up, too.
Eyes, Brain, Hands.  Repeat.

I fail to understand the relevance of the commentary on Sturgis when this happened in Az. At least the story didn't mention if they were wearing helmets or not.

Could be because this rally was called "Too Broke for Sturgis"? :-\

Still no relevance. There are mini Sturgis rallys all over the country. If the shooter was pissed cause his ole lady run off and screwed a lawyer on a 30k HD on stage at Sturgis I could understand the expanded referance.

It is not uncommon for both Hells Angels and Mongols to be in attendance of a Sturgis rally....

Just sayin.

I am pretty sure that statement was about that Rally being planned for people who couldn't or didn't want to go. To broke for Sturgis rally.
I am also pretty sure Marcusorelius and Duke went to that rally. According to his facebook. I wonder what he knows about it? And better yet that they are both fine.

Just got back. From what I understand it was a 19 year old kid (not a biker) who pre planned shooting his girl friend, her mother & boyfriend. Could have happened anywhere. We were sitting at our camp & heard the shots. They shut down the rally the next morning but we were able to stay & camp sat nite. Freekin idiot ruined a good time for everyone.

Here in Washington we just had five shot in a Native-American run casino (boyfriend/girlfirend thing again), and 12 shot at a Low Riders car show.  And look at the horror in Norway.  Insanity knows no bounds, either economic, demographic, or geographic.  No place, no group, no "class" is safe.
A life undreamed is a waste.  A dream unlived is a sin.
