Rear stand used to lift front
« on: December 16, 2014, 12:42:32 PM »
Had been using a rear stand with my Honda RC51, and was going to sell it now that the RC51 is sold and I've installed a center stand on my ZX14R. I know, I know, it's a ZX14R, not a Connie, but might help somebody here too.

So I was trying to think of a way to get the front wheel off the ground, just for easier cleaning. Then realized my rear stand would prob work. Just need a small rod to insert thru the front axle hole, long enough to catch both lift channels on the stand. Both tires are off the ground in the pic below. Could also be useful for storing the bike with the front tire up off the ground (assuming you C14 guys even store your bikes?!). Maybe some other things, not sure. Brake work? Apply rim stripes??  :P

This is a pretty expensive Pit Bull stand, but there are much cheaper ones that would work fine also (even Harbor Freight). There's not much weight on it at all.

Careful, though: The stand's handle sticks out pretty far, and with so little weight on the front wheel, and with the bike on the center stand which is a pretty narrow platform, I imagine somebody tripping on the handle could knock the bike down.

Good idea!

I get my C14 front wheel off the ground by wedging a piece of wood under the header while the bike is on the center stand. Very easy. And if more clearance is needed, I.e. for front wheel removal, I use a floor jack under the piece of wood. If you try this with the rear wheel already removed, such as for a front and rear tire change, be VERY careful, and use jack stands or otherwise support the rear first.

As seen in your photo, using a tiedown strap to tie the front and centerstands together down low, would prevent either from moving in a manner which would flop the bike down. Whenever I am working on the lift, or on the bike on centerstand, I always loop a cinch strap up front and back to the centerstand to prevent it releasing... ever since almost loosing it once trying to roll the lift around the garage... almost CDA averted, but I think I talked in a higher squeeky voice for a couple days.... :D

I use a pit bull exactly like that with no jack when i take both wheels off the C14.

1) remove the rear wheel, 2) then put the pit bull under the front forks and lift.

I have 2 sets of pit bull stands, there isn;t a "close second" stand when it comes to quality.  i sold my other race stands such as VORTEX and all the other crap!

my favorite pit bull for the garage is the "forward handle" rear pit bull stand:

another of my forward handle stand, I won;t sell it for anything in the world:
