That you know of anyways...

Quite right.  There are some unexplored regions in the state.

Guess who was stranded today for the first time (and we are talking on ANY bike)??

Pretty day, on the way to RIC.  Pulled over in a Williamsburg high school parking lot, turned off the bike, took off helmet, got out phone, called Mom to say I am about 1.5 hours away.  Stretched some, put on helmet and other stuff.  Turned knob, press start- engine turns unvigorously, then BUZZZZZZZZZZ.   Three more times.  F***.  Took off gear.  Tried again.  BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ.  Called Mom, told her it will be a lot longer than 1.5 hours.

My battery is weak and should be replaced, but that can't be it.  I know it has to be a bad connection.  Took off seat,  got out tool kit.  F***!  The 7mm key is NOT THERE.  Wait a while, a whole group of people walk by (there is a nature trail nearby).  Ask if anyone has tools or will check their cars for toolkits.  Three help.  Car 1- no toolkit.  Car 2- no toolkit.  Car 3- no toolkit.  One person says they live nearby and will go get tools.  Two others wait with me.  While waiting, a truck rides by that says "General Contractor and Repair".  Go after him and ask if he has any allen wrenches.  Yep!  F***!  SAE only.  Try anyway.... BINGO, 7/32" worked (barely).

Disconnect everything and pull out battery.  Sure enough, the far/negative terminal has worked loose.  Tighten it and put it all back in there.  Starts!!  One hour lost.  Nice guy that went home finally arrived back, and on a URAL!  Late to the party for some reason, but such incidents go a long way to restoring faith in people :)

Moral of story- MAKE SURE YOUR TOOLKIT IS COMPLETE.  I must have taken the key out at some point and like a stupid idiot, didn't put it back.   I am going to replace the battery anyway, I just don't trust it (just sounds weaker and weaker...  it was accidentally allowed to go dead a few times, I think that sucked the life out of it.)

Moral of story...check your battery more often.  You know that the terminal connections get loose.

Yeah, I have read it over and over on the forums.  At least I didn't panic and pretty much knew what it was due to paying attention :)

I'm glad to hear that you got it sorted out and didn't get totally stranded.

Actually Jim, I think you are being too careful. Protected as you are the by the activation switch bypass, which is unconditionally guaranteed to work (by physics, not me personally) it only hurts fuel economy carrying a hammer to beat on the ign. switch.

Put another way, it would be like using a condom and being gay..... overkill to be sure.

I carry a hammer just in case.  Also have the bypass.  One can't be too careful.

I checked my battery when I installed the pigtail for the charger. The Positive lug was loose . . . New bike.

Loose battery and frame ground connections seems to be a trend for the Concours.

It's a small silver hammer made by Maxwell.  Doesn't take up much space and it's fairly light.  I'll have to show it you one day.

No sarcasm intended.  The only time I've moved the key I've had issues with the starting.  Pure unadulterated truth..at least for me.  The part about the elephant might be a bit far fetched.  We don't have free range elephants in VA.

I dunno Jim.... you ain't been over to Natural Bridge lately....
