Where you mounted the GoPro?
« on: August 06, 2014, 03:31:46 PM »
I was just looking for ideas on where to mount the camera? Dunno if i should put it right in front of the bike(nose) or on the right side wind deflector?

Never had one so dunno if vibration should be a big issue. Any input would be really appreciated.

I mounted mine using the suction cup, on the left fairing.
It seemed to do nicely there and vibration wasn't much of an issue.

Got one stuck to the underside of the left bag looking back and one stuck to the nose on the right kinda behind the headlamp aimed forward.  May stick my third to a reservoir cap aimed at me.   ;)

I have three mounting points.  A ram mount on the handelbar (brakeside), on top of the windshield (now removed) and on top of the trunk, to record behind me.  All three suffered from vibration, so now I only use my helmet mount.  It also allows you to turn the camera, while hard mounts won't.

I made my own mount near the mirror, which allows me to spin the camera around by hand. Do a search for "DIY Gopro Mount"

My '08 Connie needed a variation of the Fiddes mount since the mirrors are lower than Gen II. I haven't tried the GoPro mounted to the side of the helmet. (Nothing screams teletubbies louder than a GoPro on top of the helmet) ;D.

I wear mine on top of my helmet.  If I am going to ride a nice curvy road like the Dragon I mount it on my RAM brake reservoir mount.  I can position it where it looks through the windscreen or around the windscreen.

I have one on the top of my helmet - Best image/looks weird.  One on right side of helmet - see speedo/tach better.  I now have a remote switch which I mounted on the clutch master cylinder lid - works great.  I tried the front fender - the stabilization system cannot keep up and the vids are wavy so it won't work on unsprung areas.  Suction cup to low fairing - works great in the twisties. (Use a laynard and mount it high enough so you don't scrape it off)  Get yourself an external mike with an extension cord and stick it down in the fairing for outstanding engine sound or put the mike in the helmet to narrate.

I hated having it on the side of my helmet.  Constantly felt the wind drag and weight. Ended up with a bad cramp in my neck after 20 miles.

Wrong camera.
Contour is quite nice on the side.

And stay tuned for an updated version in the coming months, as I figure out a different mount for both my GPS and GP.

Do You have a parts list of what you used to do this? Maybe pictures of it disassembled? I want to make a modified version.
