Well, I like to play the big-boy video games. So MacPro is out of question for me. It is definitely a nice piece of machine - albeit VERY EXPENSIVE. Although, it is so much fun to build your own with the components of your own choosing.

That is a good point, and if only I did not loathe Microsoft so much. Love my PS3, it does just fine for my little boy gaming.  ;D

I finally finished building it. All I can say is WOW. It is so much better than before. Click something and it does it right now. With my old system I could log on and it might take five minutes before I could even surf. Very happy now.

Did you use the components you mentioned in the original post?
Or what did you end up using?

I used to build PCs and was in the IT field for a long time. The question as to leaving your PC on all the time or shutting it down at night has been asked of me many times. I always recommended shutting it down at night and if not in use over the weekends (at work).

I'm really curious as to why you guys would leave your machines on all the time? I know that some folks think that the power/heat cycle can be damaging to the machine's components but I don't think that's valid any longer. Plus the fact that the PC is acting like a vacuum cleaner and sucking in all that dust 24/7 and the moving parts will wear out sooner.

What say you?

I'm afraid mine won't start again if I shut it down.  :(

I just bought this gaming laptop. It is far from the best, but way faster than any laptop I have owned in the past.

Mine never get shut down. The living room pc runs OTA tv and records shows
My den pc is the main video file server with 2 server farm units both running Raid5 drives total of 16TB's.
It is far better to leave them alone then power them down and back up. I drag my hose from my garage compressor to blow them out occasionally.
This is the same for work. All our manufacturing equipment run on multiple pc's. We only shut those down for repairs or maintenance. In many cases that equipment runs 24/7.
We have large two story printers that run on a minimum of 33 servers  /computers for each printer.  Those dont get shut down except for building maintenance.
It takes two hours just to bring them down.
These days they  are made to be left alone and not to be shut down..
Leave them alone. Poor things.

I'm leary of using filters on my units fans, so I decided to make small cardboard frames with a single layer of nylon stocking for filtration... they work well, and are attached to the machine with small velcro dots. Amazing just how much dust and pet hair they will catch. Monthly, or when I remember, I pull them off and blow them clean, ur simply vacuum off the outside.... freebie frugaliscious results.
