Devil's advocate here. Aren't you folks who are wishing him evil and hoping to hurt his fellow followers simply doing the same thing he did? Did your Christian schooling teach you this? Love the sinner, hate the sin is what was always taught to me.

Not a Christian.  I'm either a Pagan or a Heathen or both.  Could possibly be a Druid.  Haven't figured it out yet.  But one thing I'm sure of, I don't like them at all.

OK, so it doesn't matter what you are, still treating him as he did others, no matter the beliefs, does this make it ok?

So what constitutes an act that forgiveness is acceptable? Is there a grading system? Obviously Fred did not make the grade.

What act of forgiveness are you speaking of? Isn't forgiveness GOD's domain?

I'm simply asking what act constitutes the act of forgiveness in your belief system? Are there varying levels of forgiveness. Please don't misunderstand me, I think the guy was an idiot too. I'm merely asking what belief system teaches that doing the same thing to another is somehow different and ok simply because you disagree with them and you feel he deserves it?

Boss, just so we're clear. I have no more regard for the Fred Phelps of the world than I do a mad dog or a terrorist or a child molester. Some humans are so broken they cannot be fixed. When they're dead that is just one less to prey upon others. I do not feel guilt or remorse for their demise.
I don't know if this qualifies as a 'belief system' but it is how I am ... no apologies.

I've obviously struck a chord so I'll bow out and leave it alone, but that's my point. We all here, well, all the people I've ever met and dealt with here are all above the antics that Fred did. I just felt that from the comments we were stooping to his level, and for what? I was asking, are we like him by our comments? I know we aren't, but the question hit me and I posed it here. Sorry if I upset anyone, I knew it would be unpopular, but that never stopped me, ask a few who know me. gpink, we're good, never asked you for an apology, not needed my friend. I feel no guilt or remorse either, we are more alike than you think.

It's all good, Strawboss. There's no disrespecting the dead when there was none when they were alive.  8)
