An arctic blast will arrive in the Tampa Bay area this morning, ushering in the coldest weather of the season.
The Dense Fog Advisory was extended for the region until 10 a.m., and today’s high of 66 will occur only this morning as the front moves through the region and drops temperatures throughout the day, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
The temperature is forecast to fall to 57 by 3 p.m, with a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and a steady plummet into the low-30s overnight — and feeling even colder with strong northerly winds.
Inland counties will be under a freeze warning tonight, and Citrus and Hernando counties will be under a hard freeze warning as temperatures could fall below 30.
The winter chill extends into Tuesday, with highs staying below 50 under partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures begin to warm on Wednesday, then another front will bring a chance of rain and highs back in the upper-70s by Thursday.
