valve adjust
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:07:33 AM »
In the last 25000 miles my 06 has only had to have the valves adjusted once at 52000 miles.
They were within specs but two exhaust and one intake were on the smallest setting they were reset to the middle where I keep them. In the first 25000 miles I must have checked them a dozen times. There was a little movement but not much. The last few times none until the 52000 mark. Cams look good only the #1 intake cam ( far left  lobe) shows any pitting. The old blue kaw is doing good.

That's great.

Checking a dozen times the first 25,000? That may be a record.

I keep a log per valve that shows me what it was and if I had to adjust, what I set it to, so I can estimate how frequently I need to do the valves.  I think I'm comfy with 10,000 miles of normal riding.  If I was going to do a lot of high rpm stuff, I'd check sooner.

That is what I observed on three different bikes.  After 25,000 miles engine wear seems to really stablize.  Keep the oil changed and avoid all the idiots on the road that are trying to kill you.  All that is left is to enjoy the ride!
Yep, still riding the old one
