Weight loss challenge
« on: August 06, 2013, 12:04:01 AM »
So, here is an idea, I think it is safe to say many of us could use to lose a few pounds.  My goal is 26 pounds from my current 212.  The basic idea is 9 months of loseing to determine the winner.  The winner will be responsible for building a ride route and the losers will join the winner on a ride, sometime early summer.  Regions would be established as some just can't do a coast to coast trip.  I'd be open to suggestions for regions by commity.

Picture of start weight, and end date.

This is a challenge that has no downside and one that many would benefit from.  To throw down the gauntlet I have already started my route.

How good si this, lose weight, ride, and meet some new friends.  Heck, all will be invited to help celebrate the accomplishment.

   I'm up for it....
let's see: 1 horsepower gained for every 7 lbs. lost = a whole bunch of new power for me anyway.. ::)

These can be fun, as you have your built-in support group / motivation. But, is anyone goin to track progress and determine the "winner" versus the others? That's always been problematic in forum contests. Lastly, total pounds lost = winner, or highest percentage lost = winner?

I'd be up for this.  Kind of depends on the distance involved.  I have been working on dropping the weight for several reasons.  First was my upcoming elk hunt next month.
I'm already down 40lbs, but could stand to loose more.

I think % is a fair measure and tracking progress is easy with pics of starting weight, toes MUST be the only body part exposed ;D

As a bonus when I win I will have 2 routes, one dual sport and one street!!  I even volunteer the use of my 450 EXC for the DS ride 8)

To give everyone a head start I ate 2 donuts this morning  ???

I would do this, but I must admit.....I cheated. I had gastric Bypass. Lost 120LBS. since December 4TH 2012. I was right at 300. I do wish you all the best of luck, and I hope you can all do what I was unable to do on my own. I must say though, I do not regret the surgery. it changed my life for the better. Stay strong, guys. Here's to healthier riders everywhere.

So I have some takers!!  Good on ya folks.  I think the official start date will be the 15th of August.  Strip down to yer skivvies, get on the scale and snap a pic of the displayed weight.  Post the pic up and the game is on ;D  I think a good end date is 15May2014.  9 months if my fingers worked correctly which should lead to some good healthy weight loss.  Every 2 weeks check in with an update, the idea is support each other with a dose of peer pressure to help keep each other motivated.

On the 14th I will compile a list of who is playing, their weight, location and desired goal.  Once we have a list we can break into regions, if someone has a preferance for a region that will become your chosen group and the members with whom you are competing with.  My max weight before my back surgery was 254, yes, I was a fat man reduced to a portly man who needs to lose more.  I wont be doing anything fancy or following any of the Hollyweird type programs.  I will do it the old fashioned way, controlled consumption and increased exercise, to include resuming lap swimming.

Some may wonder what led me to this challenge, it started with dual sport MC weight, but I received a call that my step father Stan Lynde had passed away today of lung cancer.  Knowing he was an advocate for healthy living I decided to do something in his honor.  I will incorporate his home state of Montana into my route, so make sure you are ready for some serious miles starting with Lolo Pass.  He's sitting with angels spinning a tale as I type.

I'll step up.  I'm 216lbs, must-be-broken body fat percentage scale says 31%.  Considering that 3 years ago I completed the Music City Marathon (Nashville) in under 4 hours, I'm just a tub of butter right now.  I'll wait till Monday, but then it's P90X in the evenings and running in the mornings for me.  30 lbs is my goal, and under 15% on the blubber meter.

For those that have stock C14 mufflers, you can drop a significant amount of riding weight by getting rid of that thing and replacing it with something much lighter.  I did.  And now I don't have to lose weight.  ::)

And once you get that monster off of your bike you can use it as a bench press weight. Well, if you can lift that much...   ;)

Gives me more time to go to McDonalds.... :rotflmao:   Actually, I just tried the Burger King breakfast and it was less greasy than McDonalds.  Coffee wasn't too bad either.
