stranded kitty
« on: August 07, 2013, 10:13:43 AM »
DickTheCat has been an indoor cat for most of his 1.3 yrs of life. He bolted outside last week, spent the night outside and greeted me at my front door the next morning, apparently hungry. OK, that worked out well enough.
Well, he did the same yesterday and I expected the same greeting this morning. Nope.
So, before departing for work, I called out in my best meow, then heard him answer with a somewhat distressed Mauw, Raaaare, MEOWWwwww...! After numerous marco-polo exchanges, I triangulated his proximity but still couldn't make visual contact. Then I looked up. He's sitting between some bows 20' up a tree. We played marco-polo a few more rounds then decided that I was NOT going up that tree to get him. (I've been in open-cockpit airplanes with no fear but I can't get on a ladder much higher than 10')
I'm hoping his instinct for food and shelter (rain in the forecast) will outweigh his fear and he'll make his way down. He's got 24hrs to figure it out. After that, I guess I'm calling my logger buddy to see if he's interested in earning a 6-pack of two.
Any other ideas?

In my experience if a cat can climb up a tree then it can climb down.

Good luck!

our recently departed (godspeed W/C) cat of 10+ years did the same thing the first year we had her... shot up 30 ft in a tree, and I played "kitty kitty" for 8 hours before using the 30 foot ladder to shake the branch she was on.... plop.... scrambled her brain a bit but she was fine...
2 months later different tree and higher yet.... I insisted to my wife to ignore it, she'll come down.... yep she did...
last time my wife spent 4 hours in the rain and darkness trying to coax her down and I kept yelling at here from the house "have you ever seen cat bones up in a tree?"

as soon as the wife came in the house and gave up, threatening to call the fire department....(who charges $500 a trip)... the cat showed up at the door....
that cat's name was "Wylde-Child the tree dweller"
damned glad DOGs don't climb trees.... ::)

I agree with Man Of Blues.
Ignore it, it will come down.
You'll never seen cat skeletons in trees.
