40 Mile commute temp change
« on: June 28, 2016, 09:25:39 AM »
So I live near the San Francisco zoo which is blocks from the ocean. I work in Concord, CA which is 40 miles away. Yesterday I came prepared with my cooling vest for a fun ride home from work.
When I left at 4pm, with the sun radiating off the pavement the temp gauge said it was 107 for a moment, but ranged from 103 to 107 as I left for home. By the time I arrived at home around 45 minutes later it had dipped to 63 at one point.

Sound be a similar trip home today. Das hot!

Concord and SF have completely different climates. I think it was Mark Twain that said the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco. I hope the cooling vest is dry by the time you get to the low 60's area.

No it was getting a little cold by the time I got home.
Still damp this morning after my ride in.
I plan to ring it out a bit more today.

I leave my display on temp all the time when riding, except when I first check tire pressures and unless I am monitoring something else temporarily.

I am always fascinated by how much the temperature can vary from one place to another.  I notice on my body first, sometimes it is very pronounced, then the display will register it a moment later.

On one trip, I was wearing my vented jacket + short screen and driving towards the beach.  It was 82 degrees.  But halfway down Shore Drive- BAM the temperature suddenly dropped about 20 degrees and I was freezing!   I had to slow down and put the windscreen up a lot.  The trip all the way down Pacific Ave was the same (but much slower).  But just a few miles down General Booth Blvd and the temp soared again.

Yes I noticed something similar riding in the Coastal mountains in California.
Pretty cool, tiny little pockets of really cold air only a few hundred yards long.
