Givi TankLock T480
« on: July 01, 2013, 05:59:00 PM »
Hello everyone.

Just bought a 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS and I've got the urge to farkle a bit.  I have a Chase Harper magnetic tank bag from my previous motorcycle (Honda CB700SC) but I am considering moving away from the magnetic type bags.  I've noticed the Givi TankLock T480, and I like the idea of a quick-attach/detach ring on the fuel filler.  However, I've heard conflicting reports about whether or not it works on the Concours.

Is anyone running a Givi TankLock T480?  What are your thoughts?  Are there any other tank bag recommendations that are easy to attach/detach and are not a magnetic or strap installation?

Thanks!

If anyone is not familar with the bag, here it is:  http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/986/37521/ITEM/Givi-TankLock-T480-Tank-Bag.aspx

Welcome p%&*#, I've got a Cortech gashole ring mount bag. I love the concept, still undecided on Cortech's execution. I think SW Motech (?) also makes a ring mount. May be others.

I'm very happy with Bags Connection(Twisted Throttle) Trial QL tank bag.

The Givi is less than the SW Motec Trial I have and may be functionally larger because it fits a full face helmet.  My Bags Connection (sw motec) has a lot of well thought features like you can lock the bag to the bike with a pin and lock the zippers together to make it harder to open.  I liked that feature.  I just bought a Garmin Nuvi and using the Bags Connection gadget mount and protective pouch/holder that mounts to the front of the tankbag.
I always wanted to be somebody......I guess I should have been more specific.

I am using the Givi T489 TankLock on my 2012.  Perfect fit and have been very happy with it.  Only issue, and it's very minor, is the "safety strap" on mine is a bit short for the stock Concours but fits OK now that I've installed Murph's Risers.  Not sure the length of the strap on the T480.

It did not work on my 09 as it interfered with the glove box. I made spacers to raise the tank ring, then it interfered with the gas cap.

That is what I feared.  I have an 09, as well, and the glove box clearance concerned me.  I like the glove box, but I wanted the tank bag, as well, for trips and because the glove box seems to get REALLY hot.  (my tank bag stayed reasonably cool on my last bike).

Thanks for the feedback.

I found it useless enough to remove it and replaced it with a '10 cover. No tankbag problem now.
