Exhaust vibration at higher speeds
« on: June 07, 2013, 04:51:20 PM »
On my 2012 connie with 10,000 miles is giving me a vibration throughout whole bike at higher than highway speeds . This vibration is also present on hard acceleration . It is strongest at the grips as it runs through my hands enough to cause numbness. If  I get up to speed and pull in clutch to let engine RPM down it goes away so my gut feeling is it is from exhaust. Any one care to share their views ?

Does it seem pronounced more on the right side?  If so, it might be due to the exhaust.  Are you running the stocker or an aftermarket?

I was thinking that but didn't want to come out and say it.  Kinda embarrassing if you know what I mean...

The header pipe attachment nuts can loosen over time.  Not sure if that's the cause or not but it doesn't hurt to check them.  I think the torque is around 13ft-lbs.  Someone correct that if I'm wrong...but then again I might be right.  50-50 preposition.

Well guys my nuts were taken care of 2 weeks ago and torqued to spec. I have noticed the vibration around same time ,and yes more pronounced on right side . How is motor attached ,fixed to bike frame ? Is there a possibility that a motor mount is loose and at speed under torque the exhaust is rubbing somewhere on frame ? Has any one had this problem ?

If you didn't notice the vibration before the nuts were tightened and now you do, it's something to do with that.  I doubt seriously that the tech mucked about with the motor mounts..
