magazine scam

It seems that magazines have developed a new scam...they send out reminders that your subscription is about to expire along with an offer to renew the subscription. This month I have recieved 3 bills from magazines stating thank you for your recent renewal order...but I did not send in a renewal request. (I know from previous experience that if I let the subscription lapse that I will recieve a cheaper renewal offer). On the first one I thought maybe my wife accidentally sent it back so I paid it. On the last 2 I have had to call them and cancel the subscription...anyway just something to watch out for.

Not really new.  I've been getting that crap for years now.  I know when my subs expire and I never deal with any third party subscription service, if the mail didn't come directly for the magazine, I toss it.

The magazine scams I like are from unaffiliated companies that try to charge more than what a year costs if you order direct through the magazine.  I subscribe to Rider and get at least two or three of those a year.  Trying to get $21 or so for a years subscription.  I think Rider offers their subscriptions for $12.  And with some online searching, I usually renew at half of that.

I've seen this a couple of times myself. The first time it was from the type of mag that my wife likes and I asked her about it. She didn't subscribe to the mag and in the recycle bin the letter went.

The internet is killing the print business anyway.
