My dealer's service guy told me this was a sign that the tire's pressure was too low.  He says that I should go to 45-46 psig when fully loaded.

Hi,

I got PR2 installed to replace OEM's.  What a difference and improvement ! Most of the mileage I've done  with the PR2's was with saddlebags and Givi E55 top case full.  Add the passenger at the back and that makes a good load.  I did a lot of twisty roads, nothing excessive... and after just about 5000 kilometers, I noticed the rear tire had some wear on sides  compared to the middle that was like brand new.  I think and I'm sure that my mistake was running them at 42/42 when loaded.   :-[  My dealer's service guy told me this was a sign that the tire's pressure was too low.  He says that I should go to 45-46 psig when fully loaded.  I consider the fault to be mine, I should have...  So, I'm replacing it.
I'll have a 190/55 PR3 installed next week.  I don't want to repeat the same mistake.  What pressure would you recommend for the fully loaded C14?
Including me, passenger and all bags full, the load is surely about 425 pounds.

Robin

Let's see, you do curves and there is wear on the sides, and a dealership tells you you under inflated the tire. Hmmmm... yeah, no. Besides, the engineers recommend 42/42. If you look on the sidewall of a PR3, it says, MAX LOAD 805 lbs at 42 PSI COLD.

I got over 8000 miles out of the front OEM tire and over 10,000 miles out of the OEM rear tire. There was a lot of long distance interstate riding on the tires, but I live in Pennsylvania and traded an RC51 for this, so there was a lot of fast riding in the curvy roads here and in West Virginia.

I keep mine at 42/42. Using the engine as a brake eats the tire more than almost anything else including fast starts.

What you say PH14, matches what I first thought about the tire.  It looks like cupping.  But since the bike was loaded, I thought that the guy might be right.  Seems normal to me that sides wore quicker that the harder middle compound.  So, based on your experience, you would stick to 42 psi with the load I have on the bike.

I got 15K out of a set of PR2's using 42/42 cold. I live a short 10 mins away from twisty moutain roads.
I don't always ride a street bike. But when I do, it's a Concours. Ride safely my friend.

Thanks for the comments.  I see that I wasn't that wrong with my 42/42.
