Kawasaki Z1 testing 1973 at Daytona
« on: April 27, 2013, 08:38:21 AM »
The Kawasaki Z1 is arguably one of the greatest bikes ever made.  It also be may be considered to be in direct family lineage to the C10 and C14.

Below are links to video of the Z1 being tested at Daytona Speedway in 1973.  The rider is Yvonne DuHamel.  If you follow motorcycle racing, the name might sound familiar.  He is the father of Miquel DuHamel.  "Pops" Yoshimira is also in the video.  He started what is now known as Yoshimira Racing.  The big guy with a cigarette in his mouth most of the time is the father of my best man at my first wedding in 1980.  The first wife is long gone, but me and my best man hookup every year to go to the motorcycle races at Daytona every March.  (There has to be country western song in that statement somewhere.  :chugbeer: )

Enjoy!!!

The Z-1 was the first true superbike, and ruled the road. I had more fun on that bike than should be allowed, blowing the doors and spokes off all other vehicles that dared to challenge it. We both survive to this day after 40 years and although it has over 100,000 miles, still starts with the 1st kick (yes) or hit of the starter button. I ride the C-14 most days, but I still get a thrill when I fire up the old Z-1 with a 4 into 1 Kerker pipe, and all of a sudden I'm 20 years old again (except when I look in the rear view mirrors..)
