Thanks to all for your comments. Pokey's question on the service interval led me to check the service book and this is the 18750 mile service which is just about checking the clutch and brake systems  , so no need for a visit to the service man.
That Aprillia really looks great while the ST 1300 is almost unrecognizable without the outer gear.
