Dell keyboard/touchpad issues
« on: April 15, 2013, 06:39:14 PM »
So, I will type and leave uncorrected any issues that come as I type.  At issue  KIPASSis a jumping cursor, randomly going wherever it feels it must go.  Middle, front, somewhere but where I am actively typing.  I and a few others have looked but I see no place to disable the touchpad.  Go figure, no jumping this time.  I think Dell needs to institute.

See what I mean????  KIPASS was suppossed to be after institute.

You should be able to disable the touch pad in the Bios.  How you get there with Dell, I don't know.  I have disabled the touchpad on my Lenovo laptop via the Bios.

Once I got the proper Dell driver (not the W7 one) for my laptop touchpad at work, there's a lovely option to suspend the touchpad when a USB mouse is plugged in.

Try using the Fn-F3 button combo.  Unless you want to permanently disable it.  This should disable it until you power off the laptop.

SOP, I have a lot of experience with this issue and I know exactly what's going on. Its called Tapping. You first need to download the latest touchpad drivers from DELL. Then go into the config of the touchpad software and disable "Tapping" which is your ability to touch the touchpad to select something on the screen. This will mean you will always need to use the touchpad buttons to do this going forward. THe other trick is to tape a business card over the touchpad while your typing. I have the same issue, the side of your thumb is touching the touchpad as you type.

This works with some of the touchpad software but not every version. I prefer this method when available. I hate touchpads.

Tried.  Failed.  Extremely cautious with the thumbs, no touchy, still jumpy.  Time to call Dell, like I need another hole in my head >:(

Swap it for a Macbook Pro (), everything will work and simple to control.  Be open-minded, the Mac ()will perform like your BMW

I'm a reformed Mac ()hater. I trashed Mac ()for years and then got one loaded to the hilt "only to be used for my photography".  Didn't take long and all the windows crappy hardware and software disappeared from my property.

This  :censored: simply on a Mac ()to disable when a mouse or trackpad is present:

From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Accessibility.
Click the Mouse & Trackpad pane and select the option.

A frown to a smile?

Some day I will do the Mac thing, but for the moment this is a work provided computer so I will deal with it.

I must say it feels so frigging good not editing every sentence I type...
