Rick Mayer Seats
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:49:54 PM »
Has anyone put a Rick Mayer (from Anderson, CA) on their Concours?  I have an appointment for a ride-in to have one made but still not real sure.  Couple of friends have them on their Beemers and they really like the seats.

Rick and Bill (Rocky) hail from Bill Mayer I that created the (now) Russell Daylong seat w/ springs.  After Russell bought the rights, both boys started making them w/o springs. Rick uses extra foam and cutting w/ lots of stitching. Rocky uses 5 molds of varying density and very few stitches.

I bought a BMS (fewer stitches)  but Rick is very popular w/ LD riders also (Russell is tops). The ride- in is best because Rick seems to have poor communication w/ some buyers and leads them to complain (until they get the seat).

Sorry, never heard of Rick Mayer.  Have you heard of Rich's?  They are one of the best around...

I had one on my SV1000S and hated it.  Massive butt burn after 130 miles

I just got mine yesterday and due to delays in the process I would think twice about having it done again but a ride in is a different story.  Asking about seats is like asking about oil.   I have not placed any miles on this one but the one he did for my FJR was PERFECT.  Good luck....

I appreciate the responses.  I had Russell make a seat for my Goldwing and I love it but they confirmed that all their seats will increase seat height 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches.  I don't want a higher seat so I think I will try Mayer.  A friend had one made and they did not raise his seat.

I've got a Rick Mayer on my '08 C14.  The first dual leather seat for the C14 he did according to Rick.  I like it, its not perfect but better than stock.  Mine was mail order over the Winter of '08.  I never sent it back for adjustment.

If you can do a ride-in I'm sure it would be even better.

I wouldn't say that....

It's a nice seat, I just should have sent in back for adjustment.  This is my second Rick Mayer seat.  I had one on my FJR too.  That one was a little more comfortable.

With a ride-in you can get it to fit just like you want.

I had a Rick Mayer seat.  Sent it in twice and he still would not stop the forward slide.  His service is slow and he didn't deliver all he promised in his "specials".  Perhaps you will fare better in a ride in.

A few shots in the sunlight.  Got the chance to put some miles on yesterday and my wife likes it a lot better.  No Airhawk at this point but that may change with some serious miles.

Thanks guys.  He had a sale going in April.  It was 375.00 and that was for leather with a full redo front and back.  (25% off and 100.00 off leather).  The downside was waiting as my purchase was April 30, Build date was June 10th, and actual delivery date was July 11th.  Fortunately I had the Spencerized seat and my wife has an Airhawk so it was no rush.

I'd have to be restrained if I sent a seat in and the build date was six weeks later and it didn't show up for another five weeks after the build date.  I don't care how good the product is if the customer service sucks.  Not sure why he'd have a sale if he's backed up two and a half months.

Yea, I was not happy and his communication is hit and miss.  In the end if I had to pay full price it would have been a lot different.  UPS took 9 days as well to get it to VA from Ca.  That's why I use FEDEX
