I don't have both examples to look at here, but I do recall the screws and bowls being different, ie, not interchangeable.
the late models (94 up)_ have 2 different bowl configurations on the bottom on each set of carbs. 2 lefts, 2 rights, and the castings for the screws are different. the screws are the same. Your carbs are normal. Steve

what I posted refers to 94-up. The earlier carbs actually had different bowl screws, with different thread pitch from the 94-up. Very early carbs, like 86 to 88 or so had the screws with the large socket (not sure of the size, maybe 5mm?) then a different screw shows up with the 3mm socket but the same thread pitch as the early screws from about 90 to 93. The early screws also have an oring groove, the 94-up have no such groove. HTH, steve
