Gear change indicator
« on: June 23, 2011, 03:32:48 AM »
Can it be done? Has anyone even considered it?  ???  http://www.bikehps.com/ProductFiles/DigitalGearIndicator.html

Or are there other products out there which might be adaptable?

MOD - I've since found out that the GIpro unit connects to a bike's ECU, so this one is a no go  :'( but maybe there's something else out there.

Looking at a gear change indication, to me means your trying for another gear in 6th. Yes?
I was there until I changed to 7th gear. For the money your going to spend to find out that you only still want another gear..... I would consider spending the money on the gear, over the indicator.

Yes and no  :-\

Having been observed by the police on a ride out, they suggested I change my riding style and instead of going into fast twisties in 6th at say 3k rpm, I use a lower gear (4th) to give better control through the bend. Would be nice to know what gear I'm in if it's not 6th.

You dont need to know what gear your in, use the tach.  If it says 3k then gear down
If you still have fuel in the tank, you are not lost yet
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle

You'd need to install a digital tachometer for this one.  I'd imagine you could read the coil signal or similar somehow for a tach signal, but you'd need to find the right widget to work with it.

Or, you could just install a digital tachometer on your Connie...
