It was 1 1/2 years ago when a young driver felt I was no longer to ride my C14. The driver decided she needed to make a right turn from the left lane right in front of me. The bike was totaled and my gear did what it was designed to do. I walked away with a bruised left knee.
It was not the right time to replace my beloved C14 with a new baby at home and bills to pay.
I loved my Kawi's (01 C10, 08 & 10 C14's) I found the Concours was a great bike and did everything I needed it to do. I just had to have the 08 C14 (took delivery in July 07) to replace my C10. The 2010 C14 (took delivery March 11) had all the improvements I needed to make this bike a true LD rider.
Now it is time to get back in the saddle, I have so many choices. Maybe I just get another C14 but after 1 1/2 maybe I need to change my style just a little. Do I look at the BMW K1600 (nah too!!!! much $$) even with all the refinements of the six cylinder BMW I just cannot justify it. Maybe the new Triumph Trophy (she looks sweet) or the BMW R1200RT. Again a lot of $$ to justify (but doable). I have always loved the BMW just could not afford one.
Well the earth shifted just a little and I came across a 2010 BMW R1200RT with all the bells and whistles with only 4,700 miles on it. This bike would cost me over $24K to buy new. The owner was local and took exceptional care of the bike, I just could not pass up this opportunity. The price was set in line with what a 2013 C14 would cost with some good negotiating.
Quick review: BMW R1200RT more comfortable out of the box then the C14, loss of straight line power noticeable but I can overcome that need for speed. Pure luxury from the Beemer. I will miss my Kawi for sure, but we all move on at some point in our lives.
P.S. the ZG/GTR forum blows away any BMW forum out there. I have gained so much knowledge from being a part of this group and will continue to lurk for sure.
