Lower Cowling and mirror replacement
« on: January 16, 2013, 11:03:06 AM »
Is it terribly difficult to remove the lower cowling and do I also need to purchase plastic rivets or can I reuse the ones I have now? Also, is it fairly easy to remove the mirror? Does anyone have any experience with removal/installation of the 2012 Concours fairing and mirror assembly they can impart advice on?

You can reuse the rivets assuming they aren't broken.

My advice, remove the rivets and bolts and the pieces come off.  It's easier if you work from the top down but not completely necessary.

Thanks, Cablebandit. It appears that for some reason, removing the plastic compartment over the top of the tank and the glove box are somehow linked together with the cowling (but not the mirror) because the owners manual mentions it. I don't know why but I'll take their word for it and just go with it. I'm going to attempt the cowling removal tomorrow on my day off. Wish me luck!

You'll be fine. After you remove that plastic part on the tank, you'll be able to look around and see all the mounting bolts for the plastics. It's really not bad, and after you do it, I think you'll find it much easier the next time.

And remember... to remove the small black plastic rivets, you push in on the center of it. It will pop in about 1/8" and allow you to pull the rivet out. Totally reusable.

Thank you I learned something today about them rivets   :)  and if you think the Concours plastic  is tough to remove   try removing the tupperware from a Victory Vision. Entire bike is sheathed in  plastic.. :P
