Wake up and smell the Java
« on: January 13, 2013, 05:47:12 PM »
Actually, download it.  Oracle has come up with a fix (for today) to plug the hacker exploitation.  Java 7 update 11 is now available from java.com.....

Thanks for the heads up, Jim.  I went the other way and uninstalled it from my laptop yesterday.  Everthing still seems to work without it.  The last company I worked for had computer security an a par with DoD and they had repeated invasion attempts (some successful) and they were always targetted at Java or some Adobe product.

You'd think I would have gotten one of the automatic update notifications.  Between Java, Adobe, and Windows, I seem to update something at least once a day.

I don't use Java that much, at least I think I don't on my home pc, but my work pc is a different story.  I connect in to IBM for for remote activities and downloads.  I'll fix that one this morning.  Oracle acted fairly quickly on this one.  I can imagine the programmers having an all hands on deck 24x7....

For awhile on my home pc, I was getting malware attacks on previous versions of Java, but that was last summer.  They stopped after repeated cleanings or that hole was plugged.  I run Symantec AV and Malwarebytes which as I look down in my tray appears to be non-functioning at the moment.  Good grief, Charlie Brown!

Thanks Jim, I just upgraded my version 6 something. I picked up some sort of Java based bug last week that I had to clean up over the weekend.
