Battery Life
« on: December 24, 2012, 04:40:21 PM »
My 2010 with approximately 25,000 miles on it is showing signs of a weak battery - slow cranking and "low battery" indication. Second time in two days.

But I've only ridden it twice in the last few weeks. Could that just be due to non-use plus the cold weather, or is this battery probably going South?  I expect the battery to last longer than two years.

Have you pulled the battery and cleaned the terminals?

Check the negative cable to frame connections too.

I would say 2 years on a battery it should still be good for at least another year. I always put mine on a battery tender when I'm not riding it. Batteries last a lot longer that way. Check the connections and if nothing else, you can take it to an auto parts store  and they can load test it for you.

I am still using the original on my 08 but a battery Tender is good as well but I've had to clean the terminals  twice.

Still on my original battery on my 08 as well.

I too have cleaned the connection to frame or atleast checked it whenever I have had the fairings off. I remove the battery and bring it in the house each winter, typically thats about 4 months. I charge it one or two times during that period for 30 minutes or so on a 4 amp trickle down charger. Most every bike I have owned has seen atleast 5 or 6 years out of the battery, with a few of them making it past 10 years.

I would check the connections, fully chrage the battery and then see how it reacts to starting etc. You can load test it after getting it fully charged but the draw isn't like a car so don't expect it to have hundreds of CCA

'10, >66,000 miles, original battery.

Battery has been exposed to the arctic rockies and the phoenix desert and everywhere in between.

I never clean terminals or such, I only replace my FOB battery once in a while. KiPass Rules

Tough crowd.

The trailer thread and a thousand others i posted in I don't reference KiPass.  But another technicality is my signature so I'm sure its every post under such tough technicalities
