Temp Gauge
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:53:47 AM »
Newby here. c14 2009 abs. 17.7K miles. gloss metallic black.

There are six levels on the temp gauge and with 1 being the Cold level and 6 Hot, what can I expect to see as normal in these environments:
60 degree, in town
70 degree, in town
80 in town
90 in town
100 in town

I am going to assume at least one level down from the answers for highway travel. Thanks

Not sure about actual temperatures, but mine always runs 2 ~ 3 bars in colder temps, 4 as it gets warmer.  The fans kick on sometime after 4 bars are displayed, but before the 5th bar comes on.  I've never seen it get above 5 bars.

I think the thermostat will keep it around 3 most of the time up to 75F or 80F. then 4 above that.  Fans limit it when it gets above 4 bars.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for the temp. to just make sure it is running within specs. Looked at the coolant level, it was not full but the mark below that, I think 'Low'. I will add some coolant when I change the air filter. May change the spark plugs too if I can get to them.

It's very rare that you have to worry about the engine being cooled sufficiently.  If the gauge pegs to the top then I would start looking for something wrong like a fan not working.  Otherwise, ride the crap out of it.

i was pleasantly surprised how cool my 2011 stays in the warmer temps. My  '02 goldwing's temp gauge would routinely peg if i was moving slowly in temps above 80.
