windshield motor mount adjustment??
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:10:09 AM »
is there any way to tweak the windshield motor say mounting points or are they fixed?? looking at my gaps when down mid and up, seems my windshield and arms are not even side to side, hope that makes sense.   ???
the bike has been apart a few times now, not by me until now to see if this can be corrected.

thanks much for the time,
Joel

Is it possible that one of your windshield arms got tweaked?  You could put your C14 on the centerstand and use a straight edge to see if everything is square.  If it is off just a little bit you could probably coax it back into shape.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

Brackets are cast alloy aluminum, be very careful trying to correct a tweak in one of them. There isn't much tensile strength in that type of alloy. It is strong, but it wont bend much before cracking.

Parts for the windshield motor assembly are NOT available individually from Kawasaki. The whole assembly is for sale as a complete unit for over 500 bucks.

Don't ask me how I know this... :)

The manual does not show any adjustments in the installation section and has this note:

○Do not remove the bolt or nut in the electric windshield
assembly excluding the above-mentioned bolts for removal.
○The electric windshield assembly is elaborately manufactured
at the factory.
○If they are removed, the performance of electric windshield
assembly will not be guaranteed.

I assume you had the dealer shop try and they were not able to correct. If you are willing to risk the above I would think you could try shimming some of the mounting bolts. If the brackets are cast aluminum then they are probably not bent and that would suggest the underlying subframe might be the culprit.

thanks guys, sub frame bracket might be tweaked with the alignment upon install, but that had been replaced also. had a slower speed down,  (spun it around in my lane taking a right turn, oops) all was replaced, but notice it doesn't seem symmetric.  this issue has never been looked at, just the bike had been apart a few times for the bracket replacement, make sense ?? thought i could get in there and see if there was hope to tweak(shim, reposition) the assembly mounting, or the support that is mounted too. started noticing it more with the cold weather and the shield up, seemed good with it full down,  ;)

thanks again for the time

Mine are not perfectly even. I thought it was the plastic around them that gives the illusion they are uneven.
Kawasaki does not have the best fit and finish on their bikes.
It doesn't bother me as long as the windshield functions properly.
