Broken bag mount
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:41:08 PM »
Has anyone ever broke the saddle bag mount here? Was a little surprised to get back from a ride to find my bag floping around. I dont think I have ever heard of it breaking at the frame mount. Interesting......

That is interesting. One would expect you'd have known about it had the bike received enough of a hit to take the rail out. I've taken out both antlers in falls, but never the rail. The antlers will break on lateral impact (e.g a fall), but it seems to me that it would take vertical impact to make the rail fail like that.

I think you are correct. My bags have never touched the ground. BUT in July we had brutal heat waves with asphalt and concrete buckling. There were some spots with serious jarring.

I'm with you there...
On my weekly commute through Wisconsin I've been experiencing similarly induced buckling on some relatively newly paved highway (they did it at night throughout the spring - maybe that has something to do with it), and it drove me to set the rear damping a notch lower. But then I got a strange vibration in the front wheel at around 75 and above which seemed to be a direct cause of the damping change, so I put it back, and the vibration went away. My tire pressures were off at that time, but are right now, so I'll try it again.

The mounting of the bags is not that good and could have been done better. I made simple mods to mine and they have reduced the bouncing/flop a lot. I have posted these pictures before but it may have been on the old website. I hope they help.

Yeah. My wife doesn't know that's mine yet. And no, it's not her.
