Title: 10' Windscreen Issue & Warranty (updated)
Post by: stewart on July 21, 2012, 03:00:54 PM
Dropped of my 2010 today to the dealer with a windscreen problem. I noticed a lot of movement the other day abd it looks like something is broken on the left hand arm. On initial glance something is worn or broken. They have it for 2 weeks since I'm traveling and I'll report back.

Flesh out some info for the rest of the class:

- mileage?
- stock screen? aftermarket (which one)?

Let us know how this progresses, in case there is something we can keep an eye on with our bikes.

Hope the warranty takes care of it for you.

It's not unheard of to have the windscreen mount to break. A few people with aftermarket screens have had this happen.

I've read about the center mounts breaking, but this sounds like a side rail, so I'd like to know more.

You're right.  I don't think I've seen one of those.  Gas mileage must be terrible.

Spoke to the dealer and he's ordered the part to fix it under warranty. He said the casting was cracked, how that happened we have no idea. Apparantly the whole assembly is one part so it can't be fixed only replaced. He also said there have been three revisions of the part and he doesn't know if that means they've had problems with it.

Oh and he's going to do the rear break recall while he has it as well, just needs to confirm and order parts.

You know, all this is Kwak's fault.  They made the bike too fast.  Put's too much pressure on the windshield.

Picked up the bike today. They replaced the entire windscreen mechanism under warranty, its a $600 part. The left black arm which the winds bolts to was cracked at its base, its was a very clean break.

They asked if I'd dropped the bike, which I have, but the windscreen was never touch.

They did say the part has been revised 3 times, but no previous reports of it cracking.....so who knows.

Otherwise, the bike has been rock solid.
