Did you see the bike on the header og the Cycle Gear ad? It even has the McEnterprise bathroom bars!

It's the police version. See the blue lights.

Cycle Gear sucks. They closed the location closest to my house, because of protracted road construction. I drove up to the next nearest location (about an hour away) and the kid I talked to used to work at the store near me. He told me the construction impacted business and corporate felt they could never recover those losses. Bullcrap. So I contacted Cycle Gear via the contact form on their website, sent them a courteous, professional note about my displeasure that they closed that store, etc.. and they never even bothered to reply. As far as I'm concerned, they can all go out of business. I'll not purchase anything there, ever. Oh, and that day when I rode up there, I went for a specific tank bag that I liked and of course.. they were out of it! The sales kid (same one) said "we can't keep that one in stock"! I told him maybe he ought to stock more but he muttered something about corporate again and I just left. They're terrible IMHO.

do people really purchase and trust the Cycle Gear "Built" brand gear? (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/avatars/eek.gif)

Ya got me... I didn't even know they had a Cycle Gear "brand"... lol
-
Cycle Gear "brand" is like Kawasaki Oil...they take the cheapest **** then can find and put a label on it.

I looked at my store for some Galfer brake pads. Obviously, the rack of them did not contain the part number I needed. The salesguy walked up and asked if he coudl help me. I gave him the number of pad, and he said, "We have a hard time keeping those in...." I asked him if he thought abotu ordering more, and he gave "that" look and offered to order them.
Really? A person can order things? With a computer? WOW! Wish I had thought of that. SO, I ordered from Rocky Mountain atv and had them the next day....for less money.
-
I like Cycle Gear, but not their branded stuff. It doesn't hurt they offer a %30 MSF RC discount on most items stocked by them 8)

The Cycle Gear near me (Baton Rouge) rocks, great staff. And I have Bilt Helmet, Bilt pants and the wife has Bilt boots. They all rock, only truly waterproof pants I have owned in 40 years, helmet is better than HJC ( not saying that much) at half the price. Wife loves the boots.

Don't let Jim see you say that. ;)

I'm convinced as long as our FOB batteries are maintained we could run these bikes on Wesson Canola oil and they'd go forever (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)
-
Don't get me wrong... sometimes the cheapest stuff you can find is just fine for the job. Sometimes it's not.
-
I have bought several items online and the store had no issue of me returning it due to fit They may not always have the best but they have good buys at times. Like all businesses they can't be all things but when I need something they have in a hurry it's a great resource.

Most likely you are right. But then all the fat ass's will be chasing you thinking you are a giant french fry moving down the road.

I LIKE Cycle Gear. I go to the store in West Palm Beach, FL, and they are great there. Nice employees, and they certainly stand behind everything they sell. I've walked in once with a Motoboss Mesh Jacket that had a velcro piece on the cuff fall off, and the guy just told me to pick up a new one off the shelf and take it. (He verified I purchased it by looking it up). That was COOL...the jacket was 2 years old and worn every day!
Then I bought some Joe Rocket gloves...stitching issues...same thing.
They're good.

I did purchase some Bilt rain gear. I've worn it several times now and it's holding up. I do know what you mean though. I don't think I'd purchase a Bilt Jacket from them. I'd rather stay with a better known brand.

I bought the Bilt Leather/Mesh Hybrid Jacket (made in Pakistan) and thought it was reasonable quality for the price.
It is comfortable until 90 degrees, then not so comfortable. Ordered a First Gear mesh jacket for $108 on clearance from Cycle Gear and will compare. What is really convenient--especially with online orders--is the store return/exchange policy.
That said, my local Cycle Gear shop employed a mix of helpful folks and dips*ts. They eventually weeded out some of the nincompoops and it is better now. No fan of their cheap "Made in China" crap, but it is a good store for beginners who don't have a lot of $ to start out.
I don't trust those $50 full face Bilt helmets, but cannot currently afford a $300 to $600 Shoei.
Bought a carbon fiber Joe Rocket (HJC) helmet on Craig's List for $100. Until my piggy bank swells that will have to do.
For folks on a smaller budget, however, Cycle Gear provides basic essentials for a reasonable price--albeit, sometimes of questionable quality. :-\

You must either be clairvoyant, or had a way to look into their financials to see the impact of the construction on the business @ that location then, eh?

Maybe you should have call ahead to find out availability?

It's nice to have a motorcycle store open every day of the week. Typically dealers close up at 3 PM on Saturday and don't open again until Tuesday about 10. So if you break down on the road, it can be really nice to have a Cyclegear where you can buy a tire, have it mounted, etc.

I'm glad someone said this LOL.
As someone who manages a corporate retail store (not cycle gear) and recently had the experience of a local store closing and their customers coming down to me bitching I'm through with it lol. For a store losing $200,000+ a year we probably should have kept it open so Joe blow wouldn't have to drive a little further. /rant
