Title: C14 sales
Post by: martin_14 on April 18, 2012, 09:41:36 AM
The last edition of Motorrad (a BMW-buttered sponsored motorcycle in Germany) published 1400GTR sales/registrations since its introduction. Here are the numbers:
- 2008: 1247 units
- 2009: 93 units
- 2010: 178 units
- 2011: 138 units
- 2012: 55 units (as of March)

Does anybody know how our bike is fairing in the US or elsewhere?

From Mama Kawi's website:

"How many of my year and model Kawasaki have been manufactured?"
"Production and sales figures are company confidential."

This seems like very low production.......

I know just reading about the police forums that hundreds if not nearing thousands are being shipped to police forces around the USA.    Mesa AZ run 26,  CHP just ordered 336 bikes,  I have seen them in Sanford FL police's barracks.  Idaho bought 7.

I suspect these are going to boom in popularity as police machines.

And thats JUST police.  not counting the members of this forum and those who have not found us yet.

The only reliable indication of sales in the US was back in 2009 when there were recalls. The US gov. shows the number of vehicles actually being recalled. Unfortunately I cannot remember the numbers and I cannot find the recall notice after doing a quick search. Maybe someone else will chime in with the URL?

Martin, I take it that you are referring to a BMW publication concerning Kwak sales figures?  If so, I would certainly be suspect of it.  Those numbers appear to be very low to me.

I don't know figures of the C14 for the Italian market (too low to enter into a ranking... >:() but what I know is that here, in Italy, the market is dominated by BMW with the GS 1200: 2 or 3 times the volumes of the second ranked!  :o (Jan-Mar: GS 1,000 pcs, NC700X, ER6-N and V-Strom 350 pcs each...)
And this has been lasting for ten years or so! :banghead:

It seems that Italians are attracted by German things, despite they cost more and the reliability is in in line, if not lower, than the most common brands!

For tourers, the BMW R 1200 RT and K 1600 Gt have sold 150 and 120 pcs respectively.

I estimate that our Concours/GTr has collected no more than 50 pcs since January... maybe less!  :-[

It's a hard life!

Ciao
Ugo

The info doesn't say which country the stats are for.  If its just 1 smaller country in Eu, then those might be reasonable numbers.  IIRC the C10 averaged about 2,500 per year in US during its run.

Probably Luxembourg...

From the movie "Arthur"....

It's terribly small, tiny little country. Rhode Island could beat the crap out of it in a war. THAT'S how small it is.

It's not a BMW publication, it's a motorcycle magazine called Motorrad (you know, these Germans are full of fantasy). Thing is, they are known for being veeeeeeryyyyyy pro BMWs. You know, "it's not vibrations, it's character" or stuff like that.  ::)

Probably Luxembourg...
The sales figures are for Germany, and I find them realistic given the low number of 1400GTRs that I see around  :-\
The GTR forum here is also pretty smallish. I'd think the UK forum is more significant, but I might be wrong since I prefer English to German language.

I've been trying to find out as well. I want to compare GTR sales to the Pan European here in the UK.

Hopefully the GTR sales will be increasing and the Pan's decreasing, just so I can rub it in my friend's face. If not, I'll just keep quiet.

Reminds me of that old saying, "What the Italians call character, the Japanese call a design flaw, and the Germans deny to the grave."  8)

The CHP didn't "just" order 336 bikes. Beaudry Motorsports was awarded the contract to be the provider for the C14P to the CHP. Unfortunately, they were unable to fulfill the terms of the contract, and the contract was canceled after receiving just 55 motorcycles. So now the contract will be out for re-bid again, with BMW and Kawasaki being the contenders. No other motorcycles meet the requirements set forth by the CHP.

Hope that this info provides insight to reality.

:rotflmao: Reminds me when i heard my first Ducati.  I thought it was falling apart before my eyes and was wondering when they were going to shut it back down and check it out.  The owner mentioned he "upgraded" the clutch to sound that way  :o

I've never been out that way.  But this would not be the first time I have heard the name Beaudry Motorsports associated with negative mojo.
