Today on Easter Sunday I was 200 miles from home when I found the belts showing through my PR2 rear tire. It was holding pressure but I was not feeling that that lucky. In fact I was lucky because a small shop mechanic picked up his cell and was willing to come in for me. The only problem was the closest fit was Avon Storm ST 190/55/17. They felt great on the way home and held pressure but should I be concerned?
I've been using 190/55/17 but not heard of anyone using 180's.

I thought the Concours-14 used 190 width tires. Are you sure about running 170's? Somethings not right. MB

Your right.

No problem, when I changed my stock rear tire the only one the dealer had was a 180/55/17. I ran it with no problems at all. And for what several say about the 55 being a better tire for twisties, I didn't notice any difference.

I'm a big fan of Avon Venom's and Cobra's on my Valkyrie but hated the Storm II Ultra's on my C14. Didn't last as long or handle as well as the PR3's.

Once I rode 500 miles with the cords showing -- didn't want to, but also didn't want to get my "head knocked off" by buying a tire from an unknown dealer. I figured if I had to buy a tire on the road, it might as well be totally ruined. I did watch the the TPMS for any changes in pressure....
Not saying it was smart -- just saying.....

But did you have your safety officer on board?

There's still rubber on the OTHER side of the cords. ;D
